You are going to see images of five cities and their landmarks. Write a
paragraph describing each city and country it belongs and the landmark shown.
Use the vocabulary from the box for the descriptions. The first one is done for
you as an example. / A continuación verá imágenes de cinco ciudades y sus

New York is a big city in


the United States (North
America). It takes
thousand of visitors every
year. The city has a
population of around 8
million people. There is a
lot to see and do in New
York. You can visit the
Central Park, the
Metropolian museum and
Time’s Square. In the
picture you can see the
Statue of Liberty, a
monumet built between
1875 and 1986. It is 93
New York (USA) – The Statue of Liberty meters tall. The statue is
located on Liberty Island in
the Hudson River.
Rome (Italian: Roma), the
Eternal City, is the capital and
largest city of Italy and of the
Lazio region. It is famous for
being the home of the ancient
Roman Empire, the Seven
Hills, La Dolce Vita (the
sweet life), the Vatican City
and Three Coins in the
Fountain.

St Peter’s Square or Piazza


San Pietro is probably one of
the world’s most famous
squares and one of the most
breath-taking. Designed by
Bernini during the
seventeenth century, it
houses over 300,000 people.
The most impressive part of
the square, besides its size,
are its 284 columns and 88
pilasters that flank the square
in a colonnade of four rows.
Rome (Italy) – Saint Peter’s Square Above the columns there
are 140 statues of
saints created in 1670 by the
disciples of Bernini.
In the centre of the square
the obelisk and the two
fountains, one of Berni ni
(1675) and another of
Maderno (1614) stand
out. The obelisk, which is 25
meters in height, was carried
to Rome from Egypt in 1586.
Sydney is the capital of the
state of New South Wales
and the most populous city in
Australia and Oceania.
Located on the east coast of
Australia, the metropolis
surrounds Port Jackson and
stretches about 70 km (43.5
miles) on its periphery
towards the Blue Mountains
to the west. Hawkesbury to
the north, Royal National
Park to the south and
Sydney (Australia) – The Sydney Opera House
Macarthur to the southwest.
Sydney is made up of 658
suburbs, 40 local government
areas, and 15 contiguous
regions. Residents of the city
are known as "Sydney
Dwellers". As of June 2019,
Sydney's estimated
metropolitan population was
5,312,163, meaning that the
city is home to roughly 65%
of the state's population.

The Sydney Opera House is


a fabulous construction
located in the city of the same
name, Sydney (in Australia).
Its construction was designed
under the inspiration of
abstract art and it is a huge
building dedicated to the
realization of opera, theater,
piano, symphonies, among
other works of an artistic
nature. The work was
inaugurated on October 20,
1973 by Queen Elizabeth II,
and at that ceremony
spectacular fireworks were
launched while Beethoven's
Ninth Symphony was being
performed.
The building is unique in all
its angles, the roof is 67
meters high, has 27,000 tons
of Swedish tiles, and more
than 1,000,000 pieces. 4.5
million visits per year.

The Sydney Opera House


has four main auditoriums for
Opera, dance, concerts and
theater. It holds more than
2,400 events annually,
making it not only an
impressive building, but also
a reference for art. The
Sydney Opera House was
declared a World Heritage
Site in 2007.
Edinburgh is Scotland's sec
ond most populous city and
the seventh most populous in
the United
Kingdom. ... Edinburgh lies
at the heart of
the Edinburgh and South
East Scotland city region
comprising East
Lothian, Edinburgh, Fife,
Midlothian, Scottish Borders
and West Lothian. The city of
Edinburgh is known
Edinburgh (Scotland) – Edinburgh Castle worldwide for its history,
architecture, landscapes and
cultural attractions. Built on a
group of hills, it is situated
between the Firth of Forth to
the north, Pentland Hills to
the south, and the East
Lothian and West Lothian
council areas to the east and
west.

Edinburgh Castle, stronghold


that was once the residence
of Scottish monarchs and
now serves mostly as a
museum. It stands 443 feet
(135 metres) above sea
level and overlooks the city
of Edinburgh from a volcanic
crag called Castle Rock.
The castle, in the care
of Historic Environment
Scotland, is Scotland's most
and the United Kingdom's
second most-visited paid
tourist attraction, with over
2.1 million visitors in
2018[4] and over 70 percent of
leisure visitors to Edinburgh
visiting the castle.[5] As the
backdrop to the Edinburgh
Military Tattoo during the
annual Edinburgh Festival,
the castle has become a
recognisable symbol of
Edinburgh and Scotland.
Dubai is known as the
"Shopping Capital of the
Middle East".

Burj Khalifa is an extremely


tall skyscraper in Dubai, Unite
d Arab Emirates and is the
tallest building ever built, at
828 metres (2,717 feet).
Before the building opened, it
was called Burj Dubai. The
building is 162 stories
high. Construction of the
tower was started in 2004.
The building was officially
opened on 4 January 2010.[2]

 It is the
Dubai (United Arab Emirates) – The Burj tallest structure made
Khalifa by humans in the world. The
building is more than 300
metres (980 feet) taller
than Taipei 101. Taipei 101
was the tallest building until
2010 before Burj Khalifa was
built.
