People Plant Relationships - Crop Poster Project Directions

This Poster will be ELECTRONIC. No paper posters will be made. A poster is usually a large, one sheet
object. Your Poster will be electronic so SIZE is not an issue. It must fit all on one page!!! For most
students, making an electronic poster is a new skill.

How will I make an electronic Poster? Use the program POWERPOINT or GOOGLE SLIDES.

Those programs are for presentations, aren’t they? Yes, but they can also be used to make POSTERS.

I used Powerpoint to complete the Substances project; is this the same as that? NO, your substances

project was 3~6 slides and had notes on the bottom. This is only ONE PAGE.

How do I use Powerpoint or Google Slides to make a poster?

Refer to the assignment sheet to identify which crop you have been given. Make your poster visually
appealing by organizing the layout: use colors, fonts, pictures, drawings, images and your creativity. You
will be required to view other student poster submissions to prepare for the test.

The Poster must contain:

1. A title – The Crop

2. The plant’s botanical name (Scientific name)
3. The Family to which this plant belongs
4. The region of the world where this plant originated
5. The region of the world where this plant is native (now)
6. The region or countries of the world where this plant is currently grown for human use
7. A time line showing significant occurrences regarding this crop
8. The plant’s value to Society (aesthetic, nutritional, medicinal, ecological, recreational, structural,
other)
9. Leading countries that produce this crop; leading countries that export or import this crop
10. Fun Facts or specialty uses of this crop.

After completion of your one-page poster in either Powerpoint or Google Slides (or other program you
wish to use) SAVE the work as a PDF before electronically submitting it to Moodle. All students must
submit the project through Moodle. All students will be required to view the posters of fellow
classmates in order to prepare for the test.
