1065 EC Installation Manual 1
1. OVERVIEW
1.1. Introduction
The Pacom 1065 is a microprocessor controlled multi-purpose I/O card. There are currently three
variations of the 1065 these are.
1065 16 I/O 16 Input, 4 output, I/O module 1065 I/O Installation Manual
Each of the above variants uses what is essentially the same hardware for a different application.
The 1065EC is connected to a 1057 or 1058 or Witness field controller via an RS485 loop and is used to
control access to the floors serviced by an elevator. A card reader is positioned in the elevator car and
upon receipt of a valid card read the floors authorized for that card holder are enabled.
When connected to a 1057 or 1058 RTU each 1065EC can control access to up to 16 consecutively
numbered floors. If the Elevator services floor 1 and floors 20-30 although it is less than 16 floors it
may require two 1065ECs. A 1057 RTU can control access in up to 16 elevators with a maximum of
128 floors per elevator. A 1058 RTU can control access in up to 2 elevators with a maximum of 128
floors per elevator.

2. INSTALLATION
1. Option 1: The buttons for the floors that the card holder has access to will be enabled for the
duration of the strike time (see Section 2.2.1. Option 1).
2. Option 2: The 1065 EC will enable all the outputs for the floors that person has access to.
When the person pushes a floor button it will activate an input on the 1065EC. The 1065EC
on receipt of the input will disable all other floors until another valid card is read (see Section
2.2.2. Option 2).
3. Option 3: The buttons for the floors that the card holder has access to will be enabled for the
duration of the strike time (as in option 1) with the addition of a remote egress button and
programmable Extended Shunt/Strike time. This provides hold-on time for the remote egress
button. This Facility may be used in buildings where an intercom is used to identify non card
holders (visitors) and a remote button is activated to allow the visitor entry (e.g. to the front
door of the premises) (see Section 2.2.3. Option 3).
Note: Rev 5 and above 1065 PCBs have SIP resistor packs (See Figure 2-5). These resistor packs are used to
match the resistance of the End of Line resistors installed on each of the inputs points. The factory installed resistor
packs are 10kΩ and end of line resistors must be of the same value if these packs are used. This manual assumes
that the default packs are being used and all end of line resistors will be 10 kΩ. If the default packs have been
changed simply substitute the 10kΩ in the manual for the value of the new packs.
Warning: The operation of the 1065EC is designed to be fail safe, the relay links on the 1050-003 must be set to
NC (Normally Closed) so that if power is lost to the 1065EC all floors will be enabled.

4 Installation
2.2.1. Option 1
The wiring connections for option 1 are fairly simple, the normally open contacts of an auxiliary relay
(1 for each floor) are wired into the push button circuit for each floor. The floor button will only be
enabled when the auxiliary relay is energized. The output of the 1050-003 is used to activate the
auxiliary relay (See Figure 2-1).
2.2.2. Option 2
For option 2 wiring is a slightly more complex than option 1 because each floor button must also be
monitored.
Option 2 requires 2 relays per floor, one to monitor the floor button and one DPDT to enable the floor
button and the floor button relay.
The normal state of the Alarm inputs MUST BE reset (10kΩ) and go into alarm when the Button is
Pushed.

1065 EC Installation Manual 5
Note: The Zone has to be Shorted or read 5kΩ (50% of SIP pack resistance) for an alarm. It can not go open when
the button is pushed.
The jumper once installed, will short together all the output 1 and AC fail inputs for all 1065ECs
controlling a single elevator. This will enable the output number 1 of any 1065EC to trigger the AC Fail
inputs of all 1065ECs for that elevator (See Figure 2-3). When any floor button is pushed the 1065EC
that is monitoring that floor will activate its output number 1. This will signal the other cards that a
floor has been selected and all other floors should now be disabled.

6 Installation
2.2.3. Option 3
The wiring connections for option 3 similar to option 1, the normally open contacts of an auxiliary relay
(1 for each floor) are wired into the push button circuit for each floor. The floor button will only be
enabled when the auxiliary relay is energized. The output of the 1050-003 is used to activate the
auxiliary relay. The floors can also be enabled by a remote egress button (or any system trigger). This
remote egress button can be connected to the 1065EC as in Figure 2-4 or any other input in the system
(requires macro if not connected to 1065EC).
Note: Each elevator controller configured for the readers must have a unique address (option 3 only).

Common will be shorted to NO when relay
energized and NC when relay is de-energized.
23 Power for RS485 Open 1065 I/O does not provide power through RS485
port to power external devices (default).
Warning: hardware may be damaged if power is applied to mezzanine cards that are inserted incorrectly. Do not
attempt to install a mezzanine card with power applied.
Mezzanine cards are installed by inserting them into their slots on the 1065 and then securing them with
screws to the mezzanine card standoffs (2 each). The mezzanine card connectors on the 1065 are 24
pin, most mezzanine cards use only 20 or 22 pins, great care must be taken when inserting mezzanine
cards that they are correctly aligned with their standoffs this will ensure that the mezzanine card pins
are correctly aligned with the mezzanine card slot.

At 12 VDC:
• A Pacom 1058 RTU can supply up to 740mA.
• A Pacom 1057 RTU can supply up to 2A.

The same external supply could be used to power all devices on a device loop. In this case the Power
connections would usually be made via the RS485 terminals (see Section 2.6. RS485 wiring). The +12
and GND connectors would be left disconnected from the RS485 connections on the RTU which would
have its own supply and possibly backup batteries.
