LEARNING PROTFOLIO A2

I. Answer question:

1. Provide two examples of different points of view you have had with someone else. What do
you think caused these different viewpoints? How did you deal with them?
First, when I had to do teamwork with my friends last week, we had a big argument just because of
having different views. At that time, we were planning to make a short video for AEn class, and we
had many ideas. Therefore, one of my friends and I had some different opinions that we couldn’t fit
with each other. I think that both of us are separate individuals with our own opinions and often
tend to stand with those ideas. And that’s why there was a conflict between us. However, the next
day, I came to my friend and invited her for a coffee in order to find the most suitable way to solve
our problem. We had a whole day to talk and share ideas with each other. Finally, our conflict was
over, and my team and I finished the video together.
Next, my brother and I just faced this problem recently. My brother told me to clean the house but I
didn’t understand what he meant because I had already done it. I explained that I had finished the
work before he went home and I didn’t know that he just wanted me to remove all my hair loss, so I
fought with him. During the next two days, we didn’t talk with each other, but on the third day, my
brother came and apologized for his angry. I had to sorry too, and we showed our opinion about this
problem in order to make sure that there won’t be like this again.

2. Emphasizing the importance of audience, salespeople often say, “The customer is king,” or
“The customer is always right,” or “The customer is in control.” To what extent do you feel in
control as a customer, a citizen, or a student?
From the point of a student's view, it is very beneficial for me to consider the customer as a god.
The most visible is when using bus services, the student is one of the beneficiaries as the frequent
fare is 7000 VND, and reduced to 3000 VND for students. That is a customer-oriented activity that
attracts more users. Because these public service companies mainly focus on young customers such
as students, who do not have independent financial resources or do not have personal
transportation, tend to use cheaper options. And there is no denying that this is perfectly fine for
the students.
As a customer, the problem is more apparent such as in restaurants, shops, etc. For example, Ivy
Moda, a Vietnamese fashion brand, always focuses on satisfying its customers by providing quality
products and attentive services. When you come to Ivy's stores, customers are always consulted
and served wholeheartedly and this is my real experience. Not only that, big companies like the
company YKK, it is said: “Make customers a priority". But this's not the case at this moment. The
overly enthusiastic attention from employees can make customers feel bad, uncomfortable.
And that is my opinion under these two views.

3. List three strategies for communicating with people for whom English is not their first
language.
- Try to not run words together because non-native English speakers can’t understand your message,
and this may make them feel uncomfortable.

- Use simple words instead of academic words in order to make your sentence easier to understand.

- Listen to the speaker carefully to show your respect for their efforts to learn English.

4. Identify three privileges that you have experienced because of your gender, age, ethnicity or
religious beliefs.
-As being a girl, I always have priority not to do heavy work like porter, etc. Besides, I get many gifts on
special days such as Women Day, Valentine Day, etc.

-I’m the youngest child in the family so I am always pampered. I don’t have to worry about the money,
do the housework because my parents don’t let me do that. Moreover, all nice clothes, good food
always are saved for me whether I’m at home or not.

-In term of nation, my family are all Vietnamese so when we hang out or go to parks, we often receive
special offers from Vietnamese stores. This activity aims to attract more local people who tend to
travel aboard than foreigners.

II. Self reflection:

Through this subject, I understand the influence of the audience on business and also the word
cultural diversity. This principle of knowledge helps me adapt to the current market. I know how to
analyze the messages effectively and transmit them to the audience. Culture also is an essential part
of economic development. That’s all I identify through the sessions. Besides, to get profit, enterprises
have to understand clearly the demand, interest of customers who are their targets to attract them to
your products or services. Thanks to the materials and two powerful lecturers, I can use PAIBOC for
making messages, presenting, etc. I opened my mind about the world around me, especially about
cultural diversity. The differences in individualism, masculinity, long-term orientation, and so on
between nations around the world make me surprise at first, and now I can use this distance for my
own business. To sum up, I realize that my knowledge is still limited, so I will try my best to practice
and improve more.
