5 Use of scaffolding for work at height 5.1 Personal injury 5.1.1 Scaffold must be inspected & tagged by approved
Scaffold Supervisor.
5.1.2 Always check inspection tag before use of scaffold,
ensure that inspection is valid.
5.1.3 Ensure that all components are in placed & well tight.
Maintain three point contact system while using ladder.
Do not carry any object while using ladder.
5.1.4 Wear inspected, color coded & good conditioned full
body harness.
5.1.5 Full body harness’s snap hooks must be tied with anchor
point all the times.
5.1.6 Do not climb on toe board & guard rails.
5.1.7 Stay only within platform. Do not climb on structure or
any other object.
5.1.8 Access must be without obstructions.
5.1.9 Ensuring that information, instruction, training and
supervision of all personnel is provided to enable them
to safely perform their work at height.
5.1.10 Peoples must use chip strap while work at height.
5.1.11 Employees must be trained for work at height. REDA
5.1.12 Scaffold platform must be clear from obstruction, do not
keep unnecessary tools/material on platform & all
tools/material must be well arranged in a side.
5.1.13 Use canvas basket & manila rope for transfer tools &
light material. Use pulley system.
5.1.14 Do not throw any tools/material from ground to height
and from height to ground.
5.1.15 Erection, dismantling & modification is only allowed to
certified scaffolders under the supervision of certified
supervisor.
5.1.16 Unauthorized persons are strictly prohibited to modify
any component of scaffold.

5.2 Collapse of scaffold 5.2.1 Scaffold must be erected on firm level ground.
5.2.2 Before every use, ensure that scaffold is in stable
condition & all components are in place.
5.2.3 Scaffold must be re-inspect weekly & after modification,
hit by any moving equipment or heavy winds.

6 Cutting & Grinding of pipes 6.1 Personal injury 6.1.1 Obtain work permit before start of activity.
6.1.2 Approved Method statement & JSA to be followed.
6.1.3 Wear suitable PPEs—Safety helmet, safety glass, face
shield, ear plugs/muffs, leather gloves and safety shoes.
6.1.4 Ensure only competent/trained pipe fitters/fabricators
will carry out task.
6.1.5 Make sure the guards are fitted to all moving parts.
6.1.6 Ensure that grinder is inspected by SAFCO & inspection
sticker is posted.
6.1.7 Check the grinder body, cord & plug (three prong type) is
free from any damage.
6.1.8 Dead man switch must be in working condition.
6.1.9 Inspect the disc prior to start activity.
6.1.10 Make sure the disc is compatible with the grinding
machine.
6.1.11 Check the RPM of disc & grinder.
6.1.12 Ensure that your hand is not on switch while plugging in.
Always disconnect the power before any adjustment or
replacing disc. REDA
6.1.13 Avoid loose clothing.
6.1.14 Tie back long hair or wear appropriate hair protection to
prevent hair from getting caught in moving parts of
equipment.
6.1.15 Work area must be barricaded.

6.2 Fire 6.2.1 Obtain valid hot work permit, ensure that gas test results
are satisfactory to start hot work activity. LEL must be
0%.
6.2.2 Remove all flammable/combustible material from area.
6.2.3 Secure area with fire blanket.
6.2.4 Garbage and trash shall not be allowed to accumulate in
hot work area, as it may ignite by the sparks.
6.2.5 Keep suitable fire extinguishers in area.
6.2.6 An approved & trained fire watch man must be present
in area during hot work activities & 30 minutes
afterwards.

7 Welding 7.1 Personal injury 7.1.1 Obtain work permit before start of activity.
7.1.2 Approved Method statement & JSA to be followed.
7.1.3 Welding machine must be inspected by third party &
SAFCO. Inspection stickers must be posted on welding
machine.
7.1.4 All welding cables & other welding accessories must be
inspected by SAFCO & free from damage.
7.1.5 Only SAFCO approved welders shall perform welding
activity.
7.1.6 Do not touch the welding area during welding &
immediately after welding.
7.1.7 Wear welding gloves.
7.1.8 Welder must wear apron.
7.1.9 Fire resistant clothing is mandatory for welding job.
7.1.10 Proper PPE shall be worn at all times. Use apron, welding
hood & welding gloves along with mandatory PPE while
welding.
7.1.11 Work area to be barricaded.

7.2.1 Obtain hot work permit for welding job.


7.2 Fire & explosion 7.2.2 Gas test results should be satisfactory for hot work. LEL
must be 0%.
7.2.3 Remove all flammable/combustible material from area.
