1.Co-Education: The New Millennium Academy& Computer College
1.CO-EDUCATION
“Education is the best gift you could ever receive, because once you
have it, no one can ever take it from you.”
Co-education has been a very controversial topic that has always disturbed out educational
authorities. The modern concept of education and the changing needs of the age have bestowed a great
significance upon it. Co-education means the education of boys and girls together in the same institution. It
was first introduced in Switzerland and later on, it became very popular all over the world.
The world wide discussion of co-education has brought forth two schools of thought who sharply
differ in their views and opinions about co-education. The supporters (proponents) of co-education favour it
mainly on two grounds. One is economical and the other is sociological. On economical basis it saves both
time and wealth. It is not possible for every country to build separate buildings and equip separate
laboratories, especially in vocational, medical and engineering colleges. Lack of funds, paucity of
competent teachers and inadequacy of building are some barriers in the progress of education which can be
removed by co-education. On sociological basis, co-education is an incentive to develop the character of
students. By a close association their mutual shyness is removed and they begin to understand each other in
a better way. They can help each other by discussing their subjects and it produces an air of competition
between both the sexes.
The boys become more civilized and polished in the presence of girls and the girls stand to gain
something in the presence of boys. In this way both get confidence which plays an important role for the
further course of their lives. Thus, both girls and boys can prove themselves more successful spouses after
the completion of their education under this system
All that may be attractive but all that glitters is not gold. The arguments of the supporters are
weighty but those against are also convincing. The opponents have the opinion that firstly, it may not be
possible to teach and explain all the parts of the subject minutely to boys and girls together. There are
certain topics in subjects like psychology, biology and medicine which cannot easily be discussed before
both the sexes. As a result, a teacher seems reluctant in explaining the topic and the students face a lot of
difficulty. Secondly,
Thirdly, religious barriers are also there. In certain Muslim countries the orthodox Ulemas militate
against the basic concept of co-education because Islam strictly prohibits the free mixing of boys and girls.
Thus, they suspect that the system may corrupt their issue morally.
Considering all its bearings it can easily be concluded that this system is a mixed- blessing. It should be
only be implemented in a country where religious, social and moral values are not repugnant (hindrance) to
the requirements of this system, otherwise the results may be disastrous.
A great man is one who serves humanity heart and soul. But no man is great who is
great only in his life time. The test of greatness is the page of history. History is replete with the deeds of
men whose sole and sacred aim of life is to help and guide their fellow men.
He was born at Sialkot on 9th November, 1877. His father, Sheikh Noor Mohammad, was
a great mystic. Iqbal inherited deep love for religion from him. It was under his spiritual guidance and
inspiring supervision of his father that the initial growth of Iqbal's mind took place.
The genius in Iqbal had begun to show itself at a early stage. He started writing verses
during his school days.
5.TELEVISION
"Television is an aesthetic for the pain of the world."
Television is one of the latest inventions of our age. It means “to see from a distance.”
On the television, we can see people and their movements from a very long distance. It has gained a wide-
spread popularity in Western as well as in Eastern countries. Nowadays it has become the need of every
home. In leisure hours, it is the best means of recreation and mental diversion. In this age of anxiety and
tension, emotional suffocation and depression, television serves the purpose of ventilation of pent-up
emotions. Apart from its advantages, it also has some disadvantages.
Television is a good medium of communication that prevents us from communicating with each
other. Glued to our seats we watch this one eyed monster leaving the guests in the room and turning a deaf
ear to our mother's call. Often our food is left uneaten and homework undone. Our sleep is lost in "Alice
Wonderland" or in some unknown world where "Captain Planet" takes us on his shoulders. After
Second World War "John Logie Baired" invented it for us so that we might get knowledge with pleasure
but we have closed our eyes to all kinds of knowledge and have opened up our hearts to all types of vulgar
pleasures. Before the invention of T.V, we used to have creative hobbies. We used to entertain our friends
and go outside for our amusements to cinemas, restaurants, parks and playgrounds. We used to wait
anxiously for the morning news paper and liked to read books in our spare time. But now all these things
have become dead tales of the past.
"Television has proved that people will look anything rather than each other."
Now the children who used to hear stories from their mothers and grandmothers ,like to see
cartoons, "Enak Wala Jin" and "Kids’ Club". Mothers and grandmothers themselves are not in a mood
to tell stories about ghosts and fairies. They are busy in watching some "Bajia's or Haseena Moin's"
drama nagging one character and praising the other. Scenes of violence, rape and mad car racing are the
craze of our young people. Similarly, Dada and Nana Abboo are enjoying "Ali must qalandar must
must" with "tasbeeh" in their hands and tossing their heads. Thus TV is encouraging passive enjoyment
and cutting us off the real world.
"Television is the drug of the nation, breeding ignorance and feeding radiation."
But all this does not mean that TV has only bad aspects. It has many good aspects and
effects. Many educational, scientific, historical and political programmes that are shown on TV are very
interesting and informative. We are taken to any corner of the world where any game of our interest is
being played. We are taught how a particular dish is cooked, how a particular disease is prevented or cured,
how our house can be decorated without spending much money and much more about our social,
economical and spiritual life. So nothing about TV is good or bad; our thinking or the way we look at its
programmes makes it so.
Multiplicity has its advantages but it annoys someone when it is a part of such big
multitude. It also affects and pollutes the environment in one or the other way.
"Divine nature gave the fields, human art built the cities."
On the other hand telephone, television, cinema houses, hospitals, universities,
parks, open houses, wide roads, gas and electricity, buses and cars and availability of all commodities of
daily use with variety and abundance have made city life a pleasant dream that everybody desires to see.
But the terrorism, obscenity, corruption, unemployment, sectarianism, load-shedding and political chaos
have turned this pleasant dream in to a nightmare.
Life in big cities causes complex problems_____problems of transport, traffic, dearness, shortage of
supplies, etc. The daily life of the people may be made wretched by big business. The black marketers and
profiteer control the prices of things of daily use by creating artificial shortage. This practice is very
frequently repeated every year. Apart from this, the life of the people living in big cities is so much
depended upon modern mechanical devices (electricity, motor transport etc.) that he is at the mercy of
forces beyond his control.
Now the minds of people living in big cities are polluted with envy and hatred.
Smoke is defacing their face. They have many things to decorate their bodies but they have nothing to give
solace to their souls and peace to their minds.
Peace is the product of love and self-sacrifice. Let love and self-sacrifice prevail both in cities and villages
to make them worth-living.
Patriotism means love for one's country. Love is a natural instinct which has some
unique attributes. It enjoins upon us certain bonds or responsibilities. Everybody loves his country because
patriotism is a natural passion. Man needs protection and a sense of belonging which aids response to his
being. A sense of security and well being is a characteristic feature of a homeland. Everything that it
possesses belongs to us.
"Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries
because you were born in it."
We like the earth where we are born. We like it because it feeds our bodies,
illuminates our minds and saves our souls. Here we live among our near and dear ones who share our pain
and pleasures. We feel a sense of security, closeness and companionship. Its beautiful valleys, high
mountains, surging rivers and its values, customs and traditions all are dear to us.
I love Pakistan because I walk on its soil, breathe in its air, eat from the food
produced in its fields, wear clothes made from its cotton. I am safe from the maltreatment of Hindus. Our
shops are not looted by them and our houses are not burnt by the bad characters. We are not looked upon as
disloyal to our country.
I love Pakistan because its government is my own government. Its industry and
commerce are in our own hands. It is progressing by rapid strides in every field. I love Pakistan because its
army is strong enough to every inch of this sacred territory.
Our existence depends on the existence and survival of the dear homeland. We have an
ultimate faith in our association with our country.
"Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one."
I love Pakistan because I am free to go to the mosque. I am free to worship my Lord. I
am free to sacrifice the cow. I am free to keep fast and recite the Holy Quran when and where I desire.
I love Pakistan for the sake of saints, martyrs, warriors and heroes who fought for it.
Allama Iqbal, Quaid-e-Azam, Miss Fatima Jinah, Liaqat Ali Khan and great men have been here. Major
Aziz Bhatti, Brigadier Shami, Rashid Minhaas and thousands others sacrificed their lives for Pakistan.
I love Pakistan for its belief in sovereignty of God. It is the land of social justice,
equality, democracy, universal peace, Islamic brotherhood, unity and human rights. It is the land of
honesty, piety, love, benevolence, fortitude, courage and religion. It is the sign of Muslim brotherhood,
national integrity and solidarity.
I love Pakistan for its ancient civilization, its beautiful natural scenery and its historical
building. Historical places remind us of the great achievements of our fore-fathers. It has always been a
centre of culture and learning. To me Pakistan is the most cherished object of love. I determine to protect
and serve it to the best of my capabilities.
8.MY HOBBY
It is said that
“An empty mind is devil's workshop”
The moment we sit idle, the devil starts instilling evil in our minds. So it is always better to do something
constructive in our spare time. Anything that we do in our spare time is called our hobby. It may or may not
help us earn money or reputation. But it does give us pleasure, peace of mind and satisfaction.
People adopt different hobbies according to their age, taste and temperament. Stamp or
coin-collecting, gardening, cycling, music, movies and hiking are some hobbies that people adopt. All these
have their own good or bad aspects. But I think that book reading is far better than all these hobbies as it
prepares one for life.
In this world of strife and struggle where everybody is hankering after money, books are
selfless friends. They never leave us in the lurch. Nor do they reap advantages in our distress. They are
helpers to the helpless and friends to the friendless. They are the source of wisdom and pleasure. They
teach us how to face and overcome difficulties. They advise us to be sober and dignified both in distress
and happiness. One must be careful in selecting books.
Such books pollute our minds and contaminate our souls. Bacon, the great essayist says,
It means that we should only read such books that illuminate our minds and purify our
souls. I have a small library in my house. I have collected a number of books on different topics: politics,
religion, Urdu and English literature, science and general knowledge. All these books have been bought
with the pocket money that my parents give me every month. Instead of spending it on watching obscene
Indian or English films or eating spicy and unhygienic food at different hotels, I buy books. I keep them
neat and tidy and read them in my spare time. I also ask my friends to read these books. But I am sorry to
say that some of them never return my books. They think that by digesting books Bacon means digesting
(grabbing) other people's books.
In short, my hobby is a great source of knowledge and wisdom. And it is also a panacea
against monotony of life. My hobby has made me a great lover of books.
Old historical places remind us of the greatness and glory of man. They also arouse in
us the thoughts of the shortness of life and uselessness of the world. I had often heard about the tomb of
Jahangeer, but never had a chance to see it. Last year, in summer, I visited it along with some friends of
mine. The tomb is situated in a small town of Shahdara, four miles from Lahore, on the other bank of the
river, Ravi. From Lahor to Shahdara, we covered the whole distance on foot just for fun.
The four minarets of the tomb can be seen easily from a long distance. The
mausoleum stands in a big park. The area of the park is surrounded by a big wall. The gateway leads into a
quadrangle with two high walls on both sides.
As we entered the park, we were greeted by the hosts of colourful flowers of the
season. The whole place was full of freshness and fragrance. The place was lying all sad, silent and solemn.
Clusters of shady mango trees were adding to the beauty of the place. A current of cool, clear water was
gushing out of the fountain just before the mausoleum. Then we mounted the elevated platform on which
the whole building of the tomb is built. It was a low, vast imposing structure. In the central room of the
building was the grave of the great Mughal emperor.
The grave was constructed with old bricks and lime. There, he was lying all alone,
silent and friendless. The great king who had spent all his life in grandeur and glory, surrounded by crowds
of courtiers and companions, was now lying hopeless and companionless. Such is the end of all the worldly
achievements. “The paths of glory lead but to grave”, we thought. The silence, the loneliness and the
desolation of the place filled our eyes with tears.
The inner walls of the room were decorated with colourful designs and patterns of the
past. The old building was a fine and impressive specimen of the Mughal Art and Architecture. We went
into one of the four minarets standing up to the sky on all the four corners of the building. We enjoyed a
full view of the whole city of Lahore from there. Inspite of the intense heat, it was quite cool outside the
tomb. We remain there for a very long time.
Soon, the evening set in. The inner atmosphere of the tomb became very sad. We left
the great Mughal king alone and came out. All are the friends of prosperity. None is the friend of adversity.
The living cannot remain too long with the dead. It was indeed, a well-spent day and would always be fresh
in my mind.
"A man of science is just a student of nature and derives his inspiration from
the science."
Science has also improved our means of communication, transportation and
entertainment, ships, aeroplanes, trains, buses and cars have shortened the distances. On TV sets we can
watch cricket being played thousand miles away. The dish antenna has brought the people of different
castes, creeds, nations and countries so close to each other that a global village is in the making in which all
the differences of cultures, customs, languages and social manners will die their natural death.
11.TECHNICAL EDUCATION
"Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army."
Education is an essential need of human life. An uneducated man remains under
developed mentally. He cannot be much useful for his family and nation. That is why modern governments
give great importance to the education of their men as well as women. The huge population can be a source
of strength for a country, provided it is widely educated and properly trained.
"The landed classes neglected technical education, taking refuge in classical studies."
Technical education is lacking in Pakistan. Our schools and colleges produce men
who run after office jobs. They dislike working in factories and hate to learn practical skills. This is why
un-employment is widely spreading in the country. Poverty in Pakistan is due to the neglect of technical
education. Our country is rich in raw material resources, but we cannot reap the advantages only because
we are not equipped with any technical knowledge. We live in a free and independent country. We have to
make it rich in all fields of life. This can only be done only if we work hard in the field of science and
industry.
We need technical education to run and expand various industries such as cloth,
sugar iron mills, etc. We need these things every day. We must build roads, hospitals, bridges and dams.
But to achieve all this we need engineers and skilled workers. This can be done only if we impart technical
education to students. Then we shall also be able to use our coal, gas, electricity etc. for better purposes in
our industries.
In short, technical education makes a country rich, prosperous and resourceful, but it
has certain limitations also. Too much of technical education changes a man into machine. A man's
specialized knowledge makes him un-fit for other jobs. So we should have an element of liberal education
in technical education. We should also open commercial and polytechnic institutions. We must establish
more and more of such institutions. The idea of the "Dignity of labour" should be popularized among the
students and they should be ensured secure and bright future. Then our country will become a paradise. The
technical experts and trained personnel must be supplied by our educational system.
Games and sports have great importance in the life of young man. They are a good
means of entertainment. We can also learn discipline, regularity and sportsman spirit from games. Cricket
has been one of the most famous and popular games of the world. Many countries have prepared their
national teams in this regard.
Last Sunday, I also attended a cricket match. It was played between the boys of our
college and Friend's Club. The agreements were made by the secretary of sports. It was sponsored by
English Biscuit and Philips Industry. It was a fine day. The sun was shining brightly. I and my friend got
the tickets at the main gate and took our seats. This match was a very important match on national basis.
The players of our team had prepared well. In order to remain fit, they had taken many exercises for this
match. This match was played in national ground of the city. People from far and wide had come there to
see this important and wonderful match. There were video cameras to record the important classical catches
of this match. Huge crowd of people came to see the match as it was being played on international level
between India and Pakistan.
At the end of this match our team was awarded a national cup and our college was
closed for two days in this regard. When we returned to our home, we were very tired and dusty, but we
were happy and slept soundly.
Friendship is the sacred bond of emotional, mental and spiritual unity between
two persons. It is something God-gifted and not man-made. True and sincere friends are as rare as
diamonds. In the modern selfish world, people select their friends either for their outer perishable beauty or
their riches or their social status or their family-background. Since modern friendships are based on selfish
motives, they are never permanent.
"Everyone has best friend during each stage of life - only the precious have the same
one."
Mr. Kamal is my best friend. He is neither so handsome, nor very intelligent nor
rich. He is neither the son of a doctor nor a professor. On the other hand, he is a simple boy. He is my class-
fellow and neighbour. I like him for his simplicity and sincerity, nobility and gentility.
The first thing I like in him is his silence. He is silent by nature. He is neither a
chatter-box nor an idle-talker. He never bores me by telling me long stories of the books which he has read,
the pictures he has seen, the places he has visited or the people he has met. Unlike other worldly friends, he
does not always have a smile on his face. Always having a smile on ones face shows either foolishness or
hypocrisy.
"A friend is someone you can be alone with and have nothing to do and not be able to
think of anything to say and be comfortable in the silence."
Another quality which I like in him is that he never praises or flatters me. He
always snubs and scolds me in private for my mistakes and weaknesses. But he cannot tolerate if anybody
talks ill of me before him. He has fought for me many times in my absence. But in my presence, he fights
with me if I do anything wrong.
"A best friend is like a four leaf clover hard to find and lucky to have."
Kamal is not a friend of prosperity but a friend of adversity. He does not visit me
very often when I am well. But he never leaves me when I am sad or unwell.
I like his spotless character and his love for religion. He never tells a lie, never
abuses, never deceives anybody. He never breaks his promise. He is the son of poor school teacher and
leads a very simple life. He is poor but honest and self-respecting. He is very hard-working. Though he is
not very intelligent, yet he always gets a good position in examination by dint of his hard work. He never
misses his prayers or his recitation of the Holy Quran or his fasting in Ramazan. He never wastes his time
and mostly remains indoors. He wants to become a great professor of medicine in a medical college.
"A best friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you."
But inspite of all this, Mr. Kamal is not an angel. He is not without some human
weaknesses. For example, he always thrusts his help upon me and refuses to accept my help as far as
possible. He is slightly moody and touchy. But I think, this world will become a paradise if everyone gets a
friend like Mr.Kamal.
"I think it's fair to say that personal computers have become the most
empowering tool we've ever created. They're tools of communication, they're
tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user. "
21st century will be marked with great advancement in science and technology.
The most important features of the ongoing century will be the development and growth of computer
technology. Ten years from now, computers will be at home in our pockets and inside our television. Even
a grocer and vendor will be adding his business with the help of computers. A scientific survey has
revealed that tomorrow we shall have shirt pocket computers, which work much faster than today's
computers.
A computer is an electronic device that solves problems by processing data
according to instructions. The word computer has been derived from a Latin word “computes” which
means to reckon up. The first computer was designed by a French scientist Pascal in 1642. The first
automatic electronic digital computer was prepared in America in 1946. The electric computer is rightly
called wonder of the modern age. It is an electronic device for storing and analyzing information fed into it.
It makes calculations and controls machinery automatically.
"Computers are like Old Testament gods; lots of rules and no mercy."
The banking system too has been revolutionized by the computers. The clients
do not have to wait for a long time to know their balance, profit and loss. It supplies to its clients the most
accurate accounts. Computers are rendering great service in the smooth working of telecommunication
system also. The telephone exchanges are controlled by computers. The messages by telephone, radio, fax
machines and television are fully computerized.
Rockets, satellites and spaceships are controlled through computers. The air
fight between different countries is guided by computers. Due to the wide-range memory and calculation,
they have become the need of every establishment. In the hospitals, the computers help us to diagnose the
disease. They help us in the investigation of laboratory tests. They keep a record of patient's disease and
they are available to the doctor at a moment's notice. They guide the doctors to prescribe correct recipes for
patients.
A computer has a very vast memory. A small disk of cassette can store material
that several books and files can store. The knowledge contained in a whole library can be stored in the
computers. We can say that in future, the computer will play great role in our social, economic and cultural
life. Inspite of their limitations, they cannot be done away with.

15. EXAMINATIONS
OR
OUR PRESENT SYSTEM OF EXAMINATION
Examinations are an important feature of our educational life. The students do
not like them. The approach of an examination fills their minds with fear. They neglect their games and
take their meal irregularly. Examinations upset their routine life: Games, meetings, clubs, societies and
other activities are stopped at once. During the days of examinations, the students do not find time to
entertain themselves. According to the students, it is the most absurd system so far invented by man. They
compare it to a nightmare and the fear of examination upsets their nervous system and affects their
emotional make up.
Examinations are not altogether devoid of good. The first use of examination
is that they serve as a test of efficiency. It is only through an examination that we can know about the
progress of a student at studies. Examinations provide a tangible proof of the fitness of a student for the
higher class. A university degree or a diploma beats testimony to the fact that a particular student has
acquired knowledge of a fixed standard. Thus an employer can safely entrust a job to the degree holder. A
bachelor of medicine has to undergo a lot of training -theoretical and practical- before he is allowed to
write the degree after his name. A sick person or a patient can easily trust him for cure. In a word, a degree
is a guarantee that its holder is not a quack or a fool. If we abolish examinations, we shall have to abolish
degrees and diplomas.
Thirdly it is only examinations which help us in finding out the cleverest and
the most efficient student. Only through examinations, we distinguish between the scholar and the dullard,
the genius and the dunce. To fill higher services, competitions are conducted by the Public Service
Commission, and the top students are selected to fill the vacancies. Thus examinations help us in
discriminating between the genuine gold and the sparkling brass.
But this is only one side of the coin. Examinations have certain abuses as
well. First of all the enormous strain during and near an examination has a bad impact on the health of
examinees. A number of them fall ill or develop nervous disorders. The second disadvantage of
examinations is that they encourage cramming. Many of students prefer reading the help books to reading
their text books. The result is that they acquire superficial and second hand knowledge. The examinations
at present are a test of memory rather than of intelligence.
Our present examination system suffers from many malpractices. The students
resort to copy without any fear. They cheat, bribe and threaten the superintendent or the examiner and
adopt unfair means to solve the paper. In most of the boards and universities, papers are leaked out. The
candidates exert undue pressure on the examiners to get good-marks. Inspite of all these disadvantages, we
have to put up with examinations as there is no other system to test the efficiency of the students.
Today women play a great role in human life and have an important place in
society. They are not inferior to men. They are capable of sharing the responsibilities of life shoulder to
shoulder with men. Man and woman have been rightly compared to the wheels of a carriage.
Before the advent of Islam, women had no place in society. Many were put to death
at the time of their birth. According to pre-Islamic tradition, female was low creature. She was branded
either as the product of the devil or considered as the seed of evil. In case of her husband's death, she used
to be either disinherited by her relatives or burnt alive.
"When an individual is kept in a situation of inferiority, the fact is that he does become
inferior."
Islam raised woman to respectful positions to play her role as a daughter, a sister, a
wife and a mother in the society. She is now in no way inferior to man. The fact is that Islam gave women
identical rights to acknowledge her independent personality. The status of woman as established by Islam is
unique. A woman enjoys a right of inheritance and is not deprived. She has her independent financial
identity whether she is a wife, mother, sister or daughter.
"Social science affirms that a woman's place in society marks the level of civilization."
The dowry or whatever she earns is absolutely hers. The husband has no right to
take it either by amalgamation of assets or in any other form. Islam has also given full protection and
security to women in the society. It is regarded as a Divine bond, a solemn agreement between man woman
witnessed first and foremost by God to lead a righteous life of peace, compassion, sincerity, comfort,
serenity and hope. Woman has been recognized a full and equal partner to man. She is equal to man in
bearing responsibilities.
"And their lord has accepted and answered them (saying) never will I cause to be lost
the work of anyone if you be male or female you are members of one society."
The verse indicates that woman have full rights, the same as man. A woman gives
birth to children, feeds them and helps them grow up. It is quite true that great men have great mothers. The
progress of nation depends upon the way the mothers bring up their children. If the women are educated,
the society is bound to progress and prosper.
"A science career for woman is now almost as acceptable as being cheer leader."
17. CORRUPTION
"Trampled, divested is humanity by thy brutality and injustice."
Corruption is to get work done by means of illegal gratification. At one time, not very
long back, just a few decades back, to dabble in corrupt practices was something to be ashamed of, and a
known corrupt individual was signaled out. People would point the charging finger at him and talk scandals
in whispers about him. This goes to show that, though corruption was there, it was a very rare phenomena,
a hush affair. Both the corrupt person and the general public being awe struck about the whole affair. The
corrupt person hid his misdeed which in turn goes to show that there was fear in the minds of the corrupt,
the fear of being exposed and being punished.
As time passed by, this scenario on the front of corruption undertook an absolute
somersault as if. The very attitude of the corrupt, and the public changed altogether. The malady spread
through the length and breadth of the country, and the world. As the virus of corruption was allowed to take
its toll, it spread and continued to spread through the passage of decades.
The situation as it stands today is that, corruption is no slur on any individual, it has by
now become a way of life, it has been so closely woven into our life patterns that, no one thinks much
about it. This is because the system has been let loose and in so many decades everyone, yes, everyone is so
involved in corruption that the topic is not worth any discussions. Just as life style includes a bungalow,
car, servants, club etc., it also includes corruption.
“One of the biggest curses from which India is suffering is bribery and corruption that
really is a poison. We must put that down with an iron hand."
The entire system has been affected by this virus and it is now like a cancer absolutely
incurable. The cancer has spread throughout the body system and now there is no cure for it. Only in the
early stages, if the cancer had been treated it may have never taken such a dangerous posture.
The position as it stands today is so very pathetic that, it is a wonder; who will punish
whom for corruption? All, yes, all are neck deep plunged in this malady. When every organ of the system,
every individual in the system is corrupt to the hilt, who is there to set things right. The fact is that today
corruption has seeped deep into every corner of our system and there appears to be no light at the end of the
tunnel.
With the deadly combination of good and comfortable life, and no, no punishment for
being corrupt gave a boost to the industry of corruption and the last straw on the camel’s back was this
corruption being aided by the highest places of authority – the politician. When there was absolute support
from the highest rung of the social order, the politician, the very thought of leaving it was not to be.
Now when the virus has struck the system we hear from pulpits and platforms long
drawn out speeches on uprooting corruption. This is however now a Herculean task. However, even at this
stage, we can make an effort. This is possible only if we give stringent punishment to the corrupt, no matter
whom. Side by side, if we can find a handful of honest people they should also be simultaneously rewarded
and honoured. With this twin treatment, maybe we see a reduction of the menace after some time. Let us
remember it is more difficult to improve a decayed system rather than make a new clean system.

Adulteration is one of the most important social evils. It is taking a heavy toll of human life.
Today it has become very common. The lure of profit has drawn dishonest souls to these fields.
The large-scale damage done through adulteration is not only immediate but far-reaching. Paralysis
has become very common because of adulteration. Outbreak of certain diseases and epidemics are
also the after-effect of adulteration. In short, adulterators are like white ants eating away national
health without much apparent damage.
Bribery is another social evil which causes more damage to the country than is usually
realized. Bribery is used to get some favour which cannot honestly be granted. If bribery becomes
wide-spread in a country, the affairs of the state go into the hands of corrupt and undesirable
person. Naturally the pace and tempo of progress is restrained and national money goes waste. Not
laws but only a sense of moral and national responsibility can free a society of this evil.
Black-marketing and jobbery is the greatest curse for society. It is an atrocious crime against
the needy people. The black-marketers undermine the entire system of food-control. They cause
the shortage of essential commodities and then sell them out at exorbitant rates. Thus they try to
flourish and thrive at the cost of others, hunger and starvation.
In order to rid the society of these evils we must observe social, moral and religious values
which teach us to respect the rights of others. Punishment and punitive measure alone cannot
prevent such social crimes. We must develop an awareness of what is right and what is wrong. The
development of this awareness ought to be the aim of our education. We can banish all these social
evils if we sincerely follow the doctrines and teachings of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W).
