CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND

Muhammad has left a great spiritual legacy, which has overshadowed the world and gave direction to
world culture for the past few years. it will continue to do so until God perfects His light throughout the
world. The legacy that has had such a great influence on the past. And he will, even more so in the
future, because he has brought the true religion and laid the only cultural foundation that will guarantee
the happiness of this world. Religion and culture, which Muhammad brought to mankind through God's
revelation, were so united that they could no longer be separated.

Even if this Islamic culture is based on scientific methods and the ability of reason, this is the same as
the grip of western culture today, but the relationship between religious provisions and the cultural
basis is very close. Islamic culture is very different from western culture which now dominates the
world. This cultural difference, between one and another is actually a very principle, which causes the
basis of the two to contradict each other.

The basic economic system of western culture. As a result, in the West there are also sects that want to
make everything on this earth subject to the life of the economic world. Likewise, not a few people
want to place the history of mankind in terms of religion, art, philosophy, way of thinking and
knowledge with economic measures. This thought is not limited to history and writing, even some
Western philosophies have also made patterns on the basis of usefulness. This material is purely
material. Indeed, these schools of thought are already very high with their enormous creative power,
but the development of thought in the West has limited it to the limits of material gain.

On the other hand, regarding spiritual issues in the view of Western culture, this is a purely personal
matter, people do not need to pay attention to it. Therefore, letting this issue of belief freely in the West
is a matter of exaltation.

The story of Western culture looking for the happiness of mankind, a culture that wants to make
economic life by not attaching importance to the meaning of belief in public life, in exploring the way for
mankind to achieve happiness as it aspires, in my opinion, will not achieve the goal. Even such a
response to life is appropriate if it will plunge mankind into severe suffering as has been experienced in
recent centuries.
On the other hand, socialism, which holds that the class struggle which must end with power in the
hands of the workers, is a natural necessity.

CHAPTER II DISCUSSION

A. ISLAMIC CULTURE

Broadly speaking, the definition of Islamic culture is grouped into six groups according to the views and
points of view of each making the definition. The first group uses a descriptive approach by emphasizing
a number of contents contained in it such as the definition used by tailor that culture is a very complex
whole which includes science, belief, art, law, morals, customs and various abilities and habits accepted
by humans as community members.

The second group uses a historical approach by emphasizing social heritage and cultural traditions such
as the definition used by Park and Burgess which states that the culture of a society is a totality and
organization and social heritage that is accepted as something meaningful which is influenced by the
character and life history of a nation. . From various purposes and points of view on the definition of
culture, it shows that culture is a very broad problem.

The Qur'an views culture as a process, and puts culture as the existence of human life. Culture is a
totality of human activities which include the activities of the mind and body which are united in an
action. So in general, Islamic culture is the result of reason, mind, taste, initiative, and human work
based on the values of monotheism. Islam highly values human reason to take part and develop.

Culture is a combination of mind power with mind power with human physical energy or the result of a
combination of inner energy and human outer energy. What he thinks is born in the form of an attitude,
then the result of this combination is called culture. So if that's the case, all progress, whether outward
or spiritual, even in any field, is considered culture. Because as a result of the power of thought and
effort of the outer manpower, questions of politics, education, economy, art, development and other
advancements will emerge.
Islam is a revelation from Allah SWT which was conveyed to the Prophet Muhammad which contains
rules to guide human life so that they are safe in the world and the hereafter. Islam is not culture,
because it is not the result of the power of the mind and the power of human birth. But Islam
encourages culture in think, do economics, do politics, socialize, socialize, be educated, arrange a
household and so on. So, once again it is said, Islam is not a culture, but encourages people to be
cultured.

As we have seen, the nobility of Muhammad's life is a human life that has been so high as far as
mankind has ever achieved. A life full of noble and beautiful examples for every human being who has
been guided by conscience, who wants to try to achieve a higher human nature. perfect by faith and
good works.

Likewise, after his apostolate, his life was full of sacrifices, for God, for the truth, and for that God had
sent him. A sacrifice that has repeatedly faced death. However, even the persuasion of the people
themselves who in prestige and lineage are on a par with those who are good in wealth, position or with
other temptations, they cannot hinder it.

Human life that is so sublime and brilliant has never existed in the lives of other humans who have
achieved it, nobility that has covered all aspects of life, let alone what we see a human life that has been
united with the life of the universe since this world developed until the end of time, is related to the
creator. nature with all its gifts and forgiveness. Had it not been for Muhammad's sincerity and honesty
in conveying God's message, surely this life that we see will gradually eliminate what he has taught.

In the early days of the development of Islam, the system of education and systematic thought had not
been implemented because Islamic teachings were not passed down at once. However, the signs of the
Qur'an are clear enough to lay a solid foundation for the development of science and thought.

In using the theory developed by Harun Nasution, in terms of its development, Islamic intellectual
history can be grouped into three periods, namely the classical period between 650-1250 AD. The
Middle Ages, 1250-1800M.And the modern period is since 1800 until now.

B. ISLAMIC VALUES IN INDONESIAN CULTURE

In modern times, the spirit and understanding of some of the younger generation of Muslims, especially
PTU students, in learning and practicing Islamic teachings. They are of the view that true Islam is
everything that was displayed by the prophet Muhammad SAW, as a whole, including the values of
Arabic culture. We know Islam from him, and those who deny his apostleship are infidels. Prophet
Muhammad SAW, is an apostle of Allah and it must be remembered that he is an Arab. In cultural
studies, of course, what is shown in his life behavior is local cultural values. While Islamic values are
universal.

In the development of Islamic da'wah in Indonesia, religious broadcasters claim Islamic teachings
through cultural language, as is done by the guardians in Java. Because of the greatness of the Wali
Allah in packaging Islamic teachings with the local cultural language, so that people are not aware that
Islamic values have entered and become traditions in their daily lives.

CHAPTER III CLOSING

A. CONCLUSION

The words religion and culture are two words that often overlap, thus blurring our understanding of
them. Many views that religion is part of culture, but not a few who state that culture is the result of
religion. It is often confusing when we have to put religion (Islam) in the context of our daily lives.

B. SUGGESTION

With the above understanding, we can start to put Islam in our daily lives. We can also build Islamic
culture on the basis of concepts that come from Islam as well.
