Write a summary in your own words (80-100 on each) defining the following:

 ecological foot printing: the impact of human activities measured in terms of the area of
biologically productive land and water required to produce the goods consumed and to assimilate
the wastes generated. More simply, it is the amount of the environment necessary to produce the
goods and services necessary to support a particular lifestyle.

 Energy Efficiency Opportunities Bill 2005: The Bill establishes an Energy Efficiency Opportunities
program under which corporations that are large energy users are required to assess the
potential to improve their energy efficiency and report publicly on the assessment.

 Global Reporting Initiative: GRI helps businesses and governments worldwide understand and
communicate their impact on critical sustainability issues such as climate change, human rights,
governance and social well-being. This enables real action to create social, environmental and

 ISO 14001:2004 Environmental management systems life cycle analyses: specifies requirements
for an environmental management system to enable an organization to develop and implement a

the organization subscribes, and information about significant environmental aspects. It applies to
those environmental aspects that the organization identifies as those which it can control and
those which it can influence. It does not itself state specific environmental performance criteria.

 product stewardship: Product Stewardship is an environmental management strategy that means


whoever designs, produces, sells, or uses a product takes responsibility for minimizing the
product's environmental impact throughout all stages of the products' life cycle, including end of
life management. The greatest responsibility lies with whoever has the most ability to affect the
full life cycle environmental impacts of the product.

 supply chain management: Supply chain management is the management of the flow of goods
and services and includes all processes that transform raw materials into final products. It
involves the active streamlining of a business's supply-side activities to maximize customer value
and gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

 sustainability covenants/compacts: This sustainability covenant is a voluntary agreement between


the Environment Protection Authority (EPA Victoria) and VicSuper to work together to protect the
environment and to contribute to a more sustainable Victoria.
