Print and digital magazine comparison

Digital magazine production
Digital magazine is magazines that are printed and
available online. By buying it you are able to access
any bit of news that is available on your phone,
tablet or PC computer. There are many
disadvantages and advantages of having digital
magazine production. For example, one
disadvantage of digital magazines is that font size
can differ in size and may be harder for some people
to adjust to. Depending on the chosen choice of
technology the device may not be able to zoom in
and out causing problems for people with poor
eyesight or just create problems for people’s eyes in general. Another disadvantages of digital
magazine production could be the poor internet connection and outdated software. With
technology having outdated software can create a lot of problems for people trying to access new
updates. Outdated software’s also decrease the devices download speed and able to connect to
good internet connections. This would make printed magazines better than digital as with printed
there wouldn’t need to be worried about software.

One advantage of digital magazines is the better convenience for people travelling or when at home
and weather is too poor to go outside and buy one. With digital magazines you are able to access it
from either your tablet or phone and this makes for better convenience for people if you’re
travelling to work or going on holiday and carrying a printed copy is becoming a sort of nuisance. It
also is better if the weather for example is too strong and you find it unnecessary to go out and buy
a printed copy that could get wet or even destroyed on the way back to your home.

Another advantage of digital production is the fact they are low costing and more interactive than a
normal printed out copy. With the digital one you have a range of interactive features that appear
that you could choose from for readers to be able to truly engage as well as the fact the costs are
relatively low comparing to a printed one, including transportation costs.
Printed magazine production
Printed magazine is magazines printed on paper and are mainly available
in local shops. Like the digital magazine the printed ones have loads of
disadvantages and advantages. For example, one advantage of printed
magazines fonts is clear and people are able to read without hurting
their eyes. Starring into a screen for hours on end can create problems
for people’s eyesight which makes printed safer for people. By having
information on paper it gives the magazine a good exposure to the
advertising message as readers are able to get back to it as many times
as they want. Then again with digital the software’s and accessibility is
constantly updated so previous information is therefore taken off and
people who have not yet read it will lose information.

Another advantage of printed production magazines is that it concentrates on a certain target

audience as a certain category of people buy particular magazines that are specialized to a reader’s
interests. Some magazine and newspapers are printed out in good quality and colour of ads that
allow them to stand out to the reader to gain better resolution. This would compare to the digital
production as some companies that do present ads are placed so they stand out to the readers.

However, there are many disadvantages of printed magazines as they are very costly. The amount of
money spent on just paper for the magazine itself comes to around £20 per pack as magazine paper
is heavier and qualitied better. The also includes payments for transportation. Ads space and design
of the magazines are also highly costly and advertisement can receive huge amounts of competition.
This can also apply to digital magazines as the tablet or phone required to purchase the magazine on
can also be very costly.

There are many other advantages and disadvantages that apply to printed and digital magazines like
the ones listed below

- Longer lead time and risks of advertise being over taken

- Less flexible in comparison to the digital one
- Easy access to content
- Portable and convenient
