Unit 2: A Rolling Stone Gathers no Moss

Topic: Means of Expressing Futurity

Type of Lesson: review and consolidation

Skills involved: speaking, reading, listening, writing;

Teaching Aims:

- To revise the Means of Expressing Futurity (Future T.Simple; Future T.Continuous; Present T. Simple,
Present T Continuous; Be Going To) ;

- To speak about future actions, plans and intentions for the future;

- To make predictions about future;

- To get the students interested in the subject;

Learning Aims:

- The students should express themselves freely and make statements on their own;

- They should know how to use the means of expressing futurity in the context.

Anticipated problems:
- Some students may have problems in expressing themselves;

Aids: book, blackboard, chalk, evaluation tests, computer, video projector.

Evaluation:

- continue - through analyzing Ss’ answers;


- final – through an evaluation test;

Class Management: the classroom must be clean, comfortable and bright.

Procedure:
1. Warm-up 3min

Skills involved: speaking

Interaction: T - whole class

The teacher makes an informal conversation

- She greets the students and asks them how they are.

- The student on duty tells the absent students.

2. Checking the homework 5 min

Skills involved: speaking, reading

Interaction: T – whole class

- The teacher checks the Students’ homework and gives explanation where is necessary;

- The students read their homework .

3. Revising the previous knowledge 4 min

Skills involved: speaking, reading

Interaction: T - whole class

- The teacher asks the students what tenses are used to express Futurity ;

- Students revise the uses of these tenses and give examples of their own.

4. Practice 24 min

Activity 1 (5 min)

Skills involved: reading, speaking

Interaction: T – Ss; Ss – Ss

- Teacher asks the students to do the exercise 11, page24;

- Working in pairs, Students Identify the tenses in bold and match them to their use.

- Students read the exercise and Teacher explains where is necessary.

Activity 2 (3 min)

Skills involved: reading, writing

Interaction: T – Ss; Ss – Ss

- Teacher asks the students to work in pairs and do the exercise 12, page 24.
- Students fill in some sentences with WILL or the correct form of BE GOING TO;
- After completing the sentences, Students read them aloud and Teacher corrects them if
necessary.

Activity 3 (5 min)

Skills involved: reading, speaking

Interaction: T – Ss;

- Teacher tells the Students to read the exercise 13/ page 24 and decide what the sentences
express;
- After reading, Students are asked to give their own examples with requests, promises, hopes,
fears, or offers.

Activity 4 (5 min)

Skills involved: reading, speaking

Interaction: T – Ss;

- Students are asked to watch some PPT pictures. Cosidering these images, they make sentences
about future actions using the appropriate tense.

Activity 5- Reading Activity (6 min)

Skills involved: reading, speaking

Interaction: T – Ss;

- Teacher gives the students a sheet of paper with the great horoscope for 2013.
- Students take turns in reading it.
- After reading, Teacher introduces a discussion about how the next year will be.

5. Assessment 12 min

Skills involved:writing, reading

Interaction: T – Ss;

- Teacher shares some worksheets with Future Forms and asks the students to work in groups in
order to make up the answers to the questions.
- A spokesman of each group read their the answers to the questions.

6. Setting the homework (2 min)

- Teacher asks the students to make up sentences about their plans, their ambitions, their hopes and
fears for the future.

- After setting the homework, Teacher makes positive remarks about the students’ answers and puts
marks in the catalogue.
