Aims of the lesson:

⦁ to activate and reinforce the writing, grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation skills of the Ss

Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, pupils will be better able to:
• make predictions about the text;
• skim for gist;
• scan for specific detail;
• use the new vocabulary in context.

Skills: Listening, reading, speaking and writing


Techniques: Explanation, conversation, reading for specific information, dialogue, exercising

Anticipated problems:

- some pupils might feel nervous and reluctant to participate in the activity, thus they may need
assistance;
- some students might need further help and extra indications in solving the tasks and they may also
need some of these indications to be given in Romanian.
STAGES OF THE LESSON

1. Warm-up
Objectives:
• To organise the class
• To create a pleasant atmosphere
Teacher’s activity:
Teacher greets the class and checks if anyone is absent.
Students’ activity:
Pupils greet the teacher.

2. Checking the homework
Aim:
- to check whether the pupils have accomplished their task
Teacher’s activity:
The teacher asks the students what they had for homework. T. selects two children to read the
homework, making corrections when necessary.

The selected students read their homework

3. Lead-in
Objectives:
• To prepare students for the lesson
Teacher’s activity:
T asks the Ss if they prefer personal cars or public transportations. T ask them to write the answer on
their notebooks. Then, T. picks a few students to read the answers.
Students’ activity:
Ss listen to the teacher and write the answer on their notebooks, then raise their hands to read it.

4. Pre-reading activity
Objectives:
• To make the Ss. Aware of the text they will be reading
• To enrich the Ss.’ vocabulary

Teacher’s activity:
T gives students some sentences baed on the text they will be read and ask them to decide if the
sentences are true or false. The, T asks the students to read the text and see how many of the answers
were true.
Students’ activity:
Ss listen to the teachers’ instructions, then volunteer to answer the questions.

5. Reading
Objectives:
• To enrich Ss’ vocabulary
• To develop reading and speaking skills
Teacher’s activity:
T. gives Ss a text about driving cars. T chooses three Ss to read the text aloud. Each one of them will read
a paragraph, and T will correct their pronunciation if it is the case.
Students’ Activity
Students listen to teachers’ instructions and do as required. When they make a mistake, they are
corrected by the teacher.

6. Post-reading activities
Objectives:
• To check comprehension of the text
• To acquire new vocabulary
Teacher’s activity:
T. writes a few words on the board (gadget, crashes, drowsiness, survey, snippets, rate) then asks Ss how
they would translate these words. T’ instructs Ss to write the words and their meaning on their
notebooks.
Then, Ss are asked to turn to look at the exercises from their handouts. T gives them 10 minutes to solve
the exercises in pairs.

Students’ Activity
Students listen to teachers’ instructions and do try to guess the meaning of the words. After they write
the words in their notebooks, they discuss with their desk mate the questions and write the answers.
After 10 minutes, they report the answers back to the teacher.

7. Feedback and Homework
Objectives:
• To get feedback from the pupils

2. How do you think technology can prevent road accidents?
Then asks Ss how they felt during the lesson.
Students’ activity:
Ss listen to the teacher and answer their question.
