UTS - ACTIVITY 01

Philosophical Perspective
JESSA MAE L. IBO
BSPH-2A

Do This!
A. Guess What?
1. Spare some “ME” time with yourself in your most convenient place and comfortable time.
2. Get or place a large mirror in front of you and look at yourself closely. Ponder on everything
and try to
listen to your heart and,
3. Take some time then take note of everything in that very spur of the moment.
Answer the following: 5-7 sentences each question.
1. What have you seen in that mirror? What have you pondered on? Relate your story.
I’ve seen myself looking intently at me, smiling then back to steady normal face.
As minutes passed by, I don’t know why my tears keep on pouring down on my cheeks.
Maybe because, I’m in a quiet room alone. And then , I asked myself why are you
crying? My other side telling me, I know you’re tired, I know you’re trying really hard
but take some time to rest and freshen up your mind. After that, I came back to reality
that I really need to step-up not only in physically but also in emotionally and spiritually.
Myself thought me not to let something negativity sink in my mind, as much as possible I
don’t make it hard for me.
2. Do you consider it as a gift? If so, how does it feel to see the said ‘gift’? (If no, justify
why you said
so.)
I considered my reflection as a gift. A gift for me because it means life, a life that
I should cherish every day wherein it reflects what really inside me and it never goes
wrong. A life that gives me hope to continue and to move forward even though the road
ahead is rough to cross. Because at the end of the day, there’s only one person you can
really look up to, and that’s yourself. Smiling, looking at you and saying, “You did it self,
andI’m so proud of you”.
3. How far do you know the said ‘gift’? Is there lacking, anything you want that you
should have or something you want to disregard.
Like what I’ve said earlier, my reflection is a gift. It is not something you can fake
it to yourself. Lacking? I don’t think so, because when you assessing yourselves, you
don’t have to go against on what you see, but to accept and learn from it. When you are
able to more fully accept yourself and your difference, it will come easily for other to
accept you as well. It is something to do with a peaceful acknowledgement of being true
to others and to yourself. Especially when you see yourself happy, sad, and anxious,
don’t worry, it is normal. You and I are normal.
B. Paint Thy Self
(Photo or picture of this activity should be the one to be attached/submitted)
1. Choose a letter from your First Name and associate it to any object/image (things, animals,
plants) that
would best describe/express yourself.
2. Draw and paint that image in any color you want which may express or reflect your thoughts
and
feelings. Make your own drawing don’t copy paste from the internet - minus points
3. In 5-7 sentences, tell your story or something about that image (relationship or connection) to
yourself.

ACACIA TREE
ACACIA TREE
The first thing that came on my mind when I read the instructions in this activity,
“Paint thy Self”, is a tree but the thing is I don’t have a letter “T” in my first name so I’d
decided to name it acacia tree. Why? Because acacia tree fully describes me in many
ways. I am acacia tree who has a strong foundation (roots), that keeps me strong to stand
still and that foundation is a person whom I’ve never seen but believes in him, it is God.
I’m acacia tree that have a falling leaves wherein leaves represent people around me.
They are the people I met but never stay, simply they just come and go. I’m a trunk,
where it represents my family that keeps me on moving, the one who gives me strength
throughout my journey. Branches? It represents my journey and shortcomings in every
aspect of decisions that I make. Where I become stronger and eager to learn and accept
new things. Overall I chose acacia tree because it represents renewal, fortitude and
pureness of oneself.
C. Quiz Time! (5-7 sentences each)
1. Which among the philosophies (concept of the self ) can you identify with? Defend your
answer.
Well. I will go to Socrates concept of the self because according to him, “An unexamined
life is not worth living”. For me, he said that for us to always get reminded to not live a life
depending on what others think about you. Always prioritize yourself, don’t live with people’s
standards, and lastly don’t feel sorry about yourself. Don’t listen to them but listen to yourself.
Most importantly, we should start assessing and focusing ourselves why we are here in the
world, why we are still breathing, and why we perceive things. It is to discover our main purpose
of living on Earth because honestly, we can’t really change how people think about you, so just
live your life meaningful, happy and full of love without regrets.
2. Create your own theory/construction of the “self”.
I believed that self has two distinct divisions: an inner self and outer self. An inner self
that drives one person to be emotionally and spiritually connected to anybody. It talks about
things you figure out about yourself. On the other hand, outer self, is something that can easily
see physically and socially relatedness. Without a proper balance between the two, it can result
conflict like in making decisions. To fully understand my theory, I was inspired by Socrates for
him, “In order for you to have a good life, you must live a good life”. With that saying I can
easily have attached my theory of two self-distinct divisions that can drives a good life if you
equally balance you’re your two selves.
3. How does your construction of yourself affects, influence or inspire your life?
Constructing my self-theory affects me in some way. Talking about inner and outer self is
hard thing to balance especially when you think one but do the another. But the good thing here
is I was being able to distinguish my two selves. I was able to learn the importance of balancing
my inner and outer self. Balancing allows you to live in a healthy middle harmony ground of life.
4. Do you agree or disagree that your past is a contributory factor to who you are today, and
that who you
will be tomorrow will greatly depend on your perspective about yourself? Justify your answer.
I agree that my past had a great distribution of who I am today. Because years ago, I
already experienced to failed, to cry, get angry to someone and many shortcomings, but behind
of all of the struggles that I happened to me I’m still here fighting for my future. When I
positively think about myself, about my perspective in life, I attract the best is going to happen
not the worst. I ’ll feel happier because I am the one who takes control of my life and that what
makes me become for tomorrow.
