Transcendence

Transcendence is a movie about how powerful technological advancements are that

you can upload someone's consciousness into a such program. It was evident in the film that
humans are trying to make Artificial Intelligence so that we could have a better future and
said that it heals the world. But what makes it ironic is witnessing the process of how it heals
the world, humans will decide that they need to destroy the Artificial Intelligence they made
thinking that it would harm the people. It also shows how scientists made a research about
the nature of sapience and how artificial intelligence work that they created a technological
singularity, which Will Caster call 'Transcendence'. Johnny Deep's character validates how he
Loves and Trusts his wife, Evelyn, that he did everything to make his wife's dream possible
even though he was already dead. Evelyn wanted to heal the planet and that was what Will
Caster is trying to make but in the end, his wife lost her trust in him thinking that he wants
to harm the planet. In the end, the movie dropped a twisted ending that left the planet in
shambles with no internet, no cellphones, or other essentials devices of the digital world.

One of my reactions to the movie was it made me shiver thinking how the scientists are
trying to innovate something extra-ordinary to make the things in the world easier and
better. At the same, I was amazed how Will Caster, his Wife, and others showed the things
we can do and how we can reach the unreachable things with the help of Science. I also
adore the friendship of the Casters with Max because they have worked together for many
years developing artificial intelligence that could reveal the wonders of one's consciousness,
which Will Caster used to keep his mind alive. I love how Will Caster guided his wife to
protect herself at the same sad because I can feel what Evelyn felt when she misses her
husband. I silently cried in tears on the part where Evelyn asked if Will still remembers the
first time they met he did a story time.

After watching the whole movie, it made me questioned how dependent I am on

technology. Is it leading me for good and making things efficient for me? Or should I be
scared of the bigger innovates of technology because I do not know where it is heading to
me? Because of these questions, I agreed with what Will Caster said that people fear what
they don't understand. I fear the future innovation because it might end up like the movie
Transcendence. At the end of the movie, I also learned that I should feel confused first and
analyze what side I should take because I was wrong about judging Will Caster. His actions
seemed so scary and immoral but in the end, he was just hoping to make Evelyn'd vision of a
perfect world become a reality. As my final observation, Transcendence wants to warn us
about the consequence of playing God and evolving too much technology. The movie says
that technology can be used for good or evil- depending on whose hands it is in.
