1. What is NSTP?

(10 points) How and why was it conceived and included in the College
curriculum? (5 points)

Section 12 of Republic Act 9163, otherwise known as National Service Training

Program (NSTP) Act of 2001 refers to the program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness
and defense preparedness in the youth, by developing the ethics of service and patriotism
while undergoing training in any of the three (3) program components, specifically designed
to enhance the youth’s active contribution to the general welfare.

In the late 1990, the problem of ROTC’s relevance regarding its objectives and
purpose was evident. Corruption, exploitation, and devious practices were rampant until its
constitutionality was put to a test or question. This paved the way to the enactment of the
Republic Act 9163, otherwise known as the National Service Training Program Act (NSTP) Act
of 2001. To attain this goal, the NSTP was made a part of the curriculum. Tertiary students,
both male and female of any baccalaureate degree course or at least two, (2) year technical-
vocational courses in public and private educational institutions, are required to complete
one (1) of the NSTP components as a requisite for graduation. The offering of NSTP enriches
the curriculum by providing meaningful activities to the students, such as community
immersion, in addition to the topics and other activities taught and conducted in the
different disciplines usually done in the classroom setting. The NSTP in general aim to
enhance civic consciousness and defense preparedness among the youth, specifically those
in the tertiary level by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while they undergo
training in any of the its three (3) program components, which are Reserve Officers’ Training
Course (ROTC), Literacy Training Service (LTS), Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS).

2. How through the National Service Training Program will help you assume your role in nation-
building? Give five situations where you can practice to appreciate your roles. (25 points)

a. Enhancement of Social Skills/Interaction with Others - For instance, if there will be a face to
face interaction, NSTP program will allow the students to participate different activities like
cleaning service, medical service and so on. These activities will help me to appreciate my
role in nation-building because this are the ways that allow me to mingle with others and
develop new relationships and help me to improve my self-confidence and self-esteem.
b. Knowing the Importance of Environmental Cleanliness and Better Management of Waste
Materials through 3R's Method - For instance, if we are in cleaning service, NSTP will widen
my vocabulary about how to give importance to our environment, through this I will become
aware of the things that I do. Applying what I learned will help our environment through my
simple actions like doing the segregation and maintaining my surrounding clean.
c. Ability to Practice Different Techniques in First Aid - For instance, if there will be unexpected
accidents then through what I learned from NSTP this will guide me to help the people who
are involve in it, through my simple techniques and knowledge of what I do then I will save
someone’s life.
d. Importance of Physical, Mental and Social Health of a person - NSTP makes me realize how
to give importance to our different dimensions of health. This made me change my daily
habits, and promote healthy lifestyle because I believed that if you help and create a good
relationship with others, I must first start the change within me, so that I will carry my
responsibilities in life with no trouble.
e. Improving Leadership - Through the activities of NSTP, this will be my practice to manage a
team and through this, it will help me to develop new skills, adjust my personalities in a way
that I will learn how to work and communicate with my members, and it makes me
appreciate my role because I will realize how important a nation-building for the success of a
team.

3. Who are you as a person, as a child of God and your parents, and a friend to nature? (15
points). Explain through Johari Windows, 8 Aspects of Man and Individual virtues. (20 points)

I am a dreamer, God-fearing, loving, and nature appreciator. I am passionately love

to attain higher dreams, so I challenge myself and I strive harder on my studies. I may be
ambitious but I think I have a mission in life and that is to provide a better healthcare to the
people especially for the indigents. God-fearing in the sense that I am not a trouble maker,
as possible I don’t want any trouble, I am away of unpleasant deeds because God is always
looking at us and being a good human is the best thing that we can give to God. For He is our
way to be a good person. My family is my everything. I show my love for them through being
a good student because I know that the only thing that I give to my parents is that having a
good education and the only thing that they wish for me is to see me as a successful health
professional someday. I appreciate what God’s created and when every time I see the clouds
and stars, it always fascinates me, I give importance to what God has given to us through my
simple actions like cleaning the surrounding, watering the plants and experience local scenic
view.

About my hidden self, I am a creative and resourceful person, example, if something

I need is gone or none then I use the materials that are available and alternative of that
thing by looking it in to our house. I tend to behave in headstrong and impulsive ways
because I don’t take rules and regulations seriously but if I know that I am in the wrong side
them I always admit my mistakes and amend my wrong doings if I allow myself to happen
that because I’m not a trouble maker. I give my best to all the things that I do but in the end
I feel it is not enough and I need to give more effort, but it’s okay because I know it is a part
of my journey and I like being challenge. My family is my everything and I will do anything
for them to make them happy and feel proud of me. About my open self, I know that I am
hardworking, competitive, assertive and courageous person. My priorities are my family and
my study. When it comes to clothing, my style is an ancient time or do we call the “old
fashion”. I’m super addicted to Korean dramas, and I can watch until five in the morning. I
sleep a lot about 12-16 hours. I like to take leadership roles because I want to touch the
hearts of others and by that it is an honor for me if I can change their perspective in life to a
good one. About my blind self, according to them, they see me as unapproachable person
but when they go with me, they tell that I am friendly and have sense of humor. They see
me as a senior citizen lover and I agree to them because they see that I give importance to
the elderly. I’m good on advising about love even I have no experience about it. They see me
as a good friend who is always there when they need something who can listens to their
problems and giving suggestions how they solve it and of course even though I’m not always
present in joining mass, I know that through the teaching of God, I am a good person. About
my unknown self, I believed that I will help a lot of people through my genuine contributions
in the near future.

4. What makes one truly beautiful? Do you consider yourself beautiful? Why? Explain in the
context of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and 8 Aspects of Man. (15 points)

Being truly beautiful is how you know and accept your imperfections, as we know
we are not perfect. I believed that every creations of God are beautiful and I am created by
God so I am beautiful. It is a good choice to give all the material things that our body needs
like buying cosmetics, having a good sense of fashion and others. The truth is being beautiful
is not all about in the appearance but what is inside that matters. A golden heart that
touches the heart and help others is truly beautiful. I may not pretty in the outside but I have
a good heart that I used to understand and help my fellow and having that kind of attitude is
what makes me truly beautiful. While I was surfing on the internet, I watched some
inspirational stories that change my perspective in life. I was impress of Lupita Nyong’o’s
story of how she accepts her imperfections. She said that, in the first place she doesn’t
perceived herself as beautiful because her complexion is dark and she prays every night that
her skin will become lighter but she always disappointed because there is no change at all,
she starts to hate herself but through time she then realized that accepting of what we have
can change our perspective of what we are. She said that being beautiful is having
compassion, showing love to your love ones, to help others and treating yourself as a
beautiful creation of God. Because of her realizations, she then uses it as a guide and apply it
to herself and then, everyone calls her as the most beautiful woman. Through her
advocacies in magazines, commercials and story books, there are a lot of young black people
that she helped to have hope and change how they see their selves. Lupita makes us realize
that no matter what we look, if we have a good heart then we are beautiful. I want everyone
to reflect that, if we accept of who we are despite of our imperfections, then we will realize
how beautiful we are.

5. What is Good Leadership? How do you describe yourself as a good leader? (15 points)

Good Leadership is the key to progress. It refers to the good quality of leading people.
As Robin Sharma, a leadership speaker, lawyer by education and author of the best-selling
novel said “Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It’s about impact, influence, and
inspiration. Impact involves getting results, influence is about spreading the passion you
have for your work, and you have to inspire team-mates and customers.” A great leader
does not lead by forcing people to follow. Instead, a great leader motivates people. They
encourage others to follow them. They also lead by example, which few leaders do today.

I describe myself as an influencer and a nurturer. Sometimes I am not vocal in terms

of giving and assigning tasks to my members because I believe that it is best to show your
actions and seeing what others you do then they will make realize and follow what you are
doing. I influence them to be a better person and always suggests to touch other people
hearts by demonstrating simple actions that they can follow to help others. Nurturer in the
sense that I motivate them, I find strengths in them and help them to bring out what
capabilities they are hiding. For instance, when I am doing a music project with my sister.
She always believed that she is not good in singing and she wants to give up, but I motivate
her and I said to her to imagine the result and because of her hardships and my guide, we
didn’t expect that she did it and we won the contest despite of her doubt and hesitations.

6. Should you plan to make a project on environmental preservation with a group, what two of
the Team building strategies will you employ to succeed? Justify. (15 points)

In this modern days, many resources were wasted and not properly used because of the
rapid growth of businesses, so it is a must to have a project on environmental preservation and I
am dedicated to do some project but I cannot do anything just being me and I need some other
people to help me to do so.

I believed that these two Team building strategies will employ us to succeed in
preserving our environment. First is to Establish Goals, this is the first and foremost of what we
must do. We must have missions and visions and in order for it to make happen, we must have a
systematic plan. We must identify of what we have, what are the strengths and weaknesses on
our team, so we will do some adjustments depending on our situations. We must have an
organize schedule in doing the activities in order for us to guarantee that we will do all the things
that we need to be done. Maybe we will start to educate ourselves first, as Leo Tolstoy said,
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” If you want to
change the world, then you must start within yourself first. We will apply the basic ethical way of
preserving the environment like applying the 3Rs method, using eco-friendly materials, and being
frugal and thrifty in using natural resources. Then if we absorbed all the learnings then it’s time to
share our knowledge like starting a thrice a week orientation about what are the ways we do to
preserve the environment, and of course to encourage the youth to join the different fund raising
activities like planting trees, garbage segregation and so on. And second is that Supporting one
another within the Team, it is important to support and help one another because through this
we will have something to achieve. It is a way to make the members to feel motivated, carry
their responsibilities and making the team coherent because if you know that all the members
are active and participating then it is easy to achieve the goals of the team. Having the feeling
that you are part of the team and having a strong sense of dedication of what you are doing is a
good sign to attain the objectives of your project. Through this team building strategies I assure
that we can help our mother earth, help the people realize how important it is, “If not now, then
when?” and putting the words into action because small actions when it is combine then it will
have a great impact to our nature.

GOODLUCK!
