Name of the experiment: Study on double jersey Rib circular
knitting machine with yarn path and gearing diagram.
Introduction:
The structure in which the face and back loop occurs along to the coarse
successively but all the loops of a wale is same is called rib structure.
The circular knitting machine which is used to produce the rib structures
is known as rib machine.
Objectives:
1. To know about different parts of double jersey Rib circular knitting
machine.
2. To know about the cam system about double jersey machine.
3. To know about the yarn path diagram of this machine.
4. To know about the gearing diagram of this machine.
Description:
Double Jersey Machine: Double jersey machines have two sets of
needles; one on dial and as well as on cylinder. There are no sinkers in
double jersey machines.
This double arrangement of needles allows the fabric to be manufactured
which is twice as thick as the single jersey fabric, known as double
jersey fabric
Rib Double Jersey Machine: In this machine the two sets of needles
one on cylinder and one on dial are placed at right angles with each
other.
The cylinder being in vertical position and the dial in horizontal
position, allow the two set of needles to be at right angles, which in turn
results in vertical movement of needles on cylinder and horizontal
movement of needle on dial.
These two different movements makes the rib pattern which can be
recognized by checking the face and back loops as they run along to the
coarse successively but all the loops of a wale is same.
Different parts of double jersey Circular knitting machine:
 Creel
 Cone package holder
 Yarn passing tube
 Tensioner
 Positive feeder
 VDQ pulley
 Stop motion device
 Feeder
 Needle (cylinder+ Dial)
 Cam
 Cam box
 Cylinder
 Dial
 Fabric spreader
 Take down roller
 Cloth roller
 Leg
 Fan

Schematic diagram:
Cam system:
In a dial cylinder rib machine there is one set of needles on the
circumference of the vertical cylinder and another set of needles on a
horizontal dial. So two sets of needles remain at the right angle with
each other. In dial cylinder machines the dial and cylinder rotates but the
cam systems with the feeders remain stationary. The dial needles get its
motion from its butt which is placed on the cam truck. This cam truck is
formed by different cam placed on a cam plate. During the rotation of
the cylinder, cylinder needles moves vertically and dial needles moves
horizontally. Cylinder needles also get its motion from it. There is a
cloth tale up roller which also rotates with unison to dial and cylinder
and fabric is wound on it.
Precaution:
1. We should keep distance from the machine when we collect the
data.
2. Electricity should be checked.
Conclusion:
In This experiment we learned about details of double jersey rib circular
machine. This experiment has significance in our study life. In this
experiment we sketch the yarn path and gearing diagram of the machine,
show the knitting action, cam system. We point out the various
specification of the machine.
