A. INTRODUCTION
This learning area is designed to provide a general background for the understanding
of the development of communication skills in English for academic and professional
purposes. It discusses the nature of academic texts; from the pre-writing up to the rewriting
process. It also tackles the creation of different academic writings that are useful and
relevant to the academic and professional world.
B. LEARNING OUTCOMES
After competing this 80- hour subject you as a learner should be able to acquire the

SUBJECT GUIDE
This module was prepared for you to work on diligently and independently.
This is for you to be familiarized to what academic writing and how it is different from the
other fields of writing. This module will enable you to be equipped with the fundamental
knowledge in writing academically and professionally.

Some of the activities in the module require you to access some software
applications for you to be able to accomplish some activities; you will need some basic
software applications. These applications do not need an internet connection to use them
instead these are easily accessible and available in your respective desktop and laptops.
These applications that you need are the following:
