Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of human cultural variation,


social differences, social change, and political identities
Performance Standard: The learners shall be able acknowledge human cultural variation,
social differences, social change, and political identities
Learning Competency: The learners’ articulate observations on human cultural variation, social
differences, social change, and political identities through an introspective learning activity.

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, learners are expected to:

a. Know the importance of understanding culture, society and politics


b. Articulate observations social differences and political identities.
c. Value the social and cultural backgrounds of students as acting subjects or social
actors.

The teacher will facilitate an energizer called “Double this, Double that”.

D. LESSON PROPER

a. Presenting the lesson:


This lesson provides cultural, social, and political concepts that exist in the
realm of ideas and thoughts. As such, they cannot be seen or touched and yet they
influence the way we see and experience our individual and collective lives as
social beings.
The teacher will introduce the meaning of culture, society, politics, social
differences and political identities.
Teacher will describe students as acting agents and social actors.

ACTIVITY 1

Directions:
1. Get one whole sheet of paper.
2. Draw figure 1 on the sheet of paper.
3. Write your name inside the circle.

4. Write the following information of yourself in the 4 spaces:


a. gender
b. socio-economic class
c. ethnicity
d. religion

ACTIVITY 2

Directions: The teacher will group the students into 4. Each group will choose a
leader and a secretary to consolidate their answers on a table similar to what is shown
below.

ACTIVITY 3
Directions: Based on the output from the previous activity, the teacher will ask the
students to discuss their observations based on the following questions:
1. What are the similarities and differences of every individual?
2. Do these similarities and differences affect the life of the whole community? Why?
The teacher will give each group a time frame of 2 minutes to present their answers
group outputs. Processing of answers shall follow.

E. GENERALIZATION
What is culture, society and politics?

F. APPLICATION

The teacher will present some situations that students personally encounter different
ways of doing things, behaving, and making sense of events. Students will think of more
situations that they personally encounter.

IV. EVALUATION
Answer the following questions.
1. Why understanding culture, society and politics is important?
2. Name at least 5 social differences.

V. ASSIGNMENT

1. The learners will be asked to observe the people inside the school campus. The following
questions serve as observation guide:

What sort of people goes to the school campus?


What sort of interaction takes place between people at different categories ( e.g. gender
and age)?
