This service letter concerns owners of Wärtsilä Vasa diesel engines
equipped with ABB turbochargers of type VTR 354 P-11.

%DFNJURXQG
During the last months an increasing number of compressor side bearing
failures have been reported on VTR 354 P-11 turbochargers, having the
standard LA 34 bearing specification.

$FWLRQ
The manufacturer, ABB Turbochargers systems Ltd, has therefore decided
to replace the LA 34 bearing units with an improved design, LA 36.

,PSURYHPHQWVRIWKHQHZGHVLJQ/$
• Material is changed to a more heat resistant and wear resistant one
• The ball retainer is made of steel and double-side guided

Your nearest ABB Turbocharger service station will contact you within the
next few weeks to organise the replacement, either directly or via your local
Wärtsilä Diesel representative. All the existing LA 34 bearings including your
spare parts stock will be replaced.

Distribution: Network and owners of Wärtsilä Vasa diesel engines equipped with ABB turbochargers of type VTR 354 P-11.
Validity: Until replacement work is completed.
