Centring Tool Cylinder Head

1 Application
All W38B engines.

2 Tool description
In order to simplify the alignment and the assembly of the cylinder head, a new centring tool has been
developed.

3 Instructions to align the cylinder head using the tool.

1 Make sure that the thread of every stud is clean and not damaged
2 Make sure that the inner thread of each tool is clean and not damage. If necessary, lubricate it
with engine lubricating oil.
3 Lubricate slightly the external of each tool in the cone with engine lubricating oil or normal
grease.

4 Mount a tool for every stud as in figure 1. If the tool cannot be fitted, move carefully the cylinder
head.
5 Screw manually all the 4 tools crosswise, using a pin that operates in the holes of the tools.
6 Once all the tools are screwed and cylinder head has been aligned, loose and remove all of
them
7 Then, tight the cylinder head as per the Instruction Manual – Chap. 2.7.1.

4 Tool purchasing

The toolkit to align a cylinder head, constituted by 4 centring tools (one for every stud) and one pin.
The complete kit can be ordered specifying the article number PAAE073585

In case of need, a single centring tool can be ordered with the article number 9622DT473.
