BADMINTON
HISTORY
The game is named for Badminton, the country
estate of the dukes of Beaufort in Gloucestershire,
England, where it was first played about 1873. The
roots of the sport can be traced to ancient Greece,
China, and India, and it is closely related to the old
children's game battledore and shuttlecock.

COURT DIMENSIONS AND VENUE
The overall dimensions of a badminton court is 20

and long service lines for singles play. The net line
marks the middle of the court where the net is
placed, creating a 22 feet by 20 feet area on each
side of the net.
RULES OF THE GAME
If the shuttlecock hits the net or lands out then a
point is awarded to your opponent. Players must
serve diagonally across the net to their opponent.
As points are won then serving stations move from
one side to the other. There are no second serves

COURT DIMENSIONS AND VENUE

Softball Field Dimensions vary in overall size when
you are talking about the outfield measurements.
Many times these measurements are affected by
the size of the lot the field is on. Softball leagues
themselves will adopt differing outfield sizes
depending on levels of play and other factors.
RULES OF THE GAME
Each team bats once in each innings before the
sides switch. The fielding team has a pitcher,
catcher, a player on first base, second base,
third base, three deep fielders and short stop. A
batter must successfully strike the ball and run
around as many bases as possible.
OFFICIALS
In baseball and softball, there is commonly a
head umpire (also known as a plate umpire)
who is in charge of calling balls and strikes
from behind the plate, who is assisted by one,
two, three, or five field umpires who make calls
on their specific bases (or with five umpires the
bases and the outfield).
