Geo-Engineering Premium Graduate Programme Overview

Compulsory Courses.

All students will follow the courses below and complete the M. Sc. Thesis.

1. Geotechnical Constitutive Modelling.


a. Outcome: To introduce students to soil behaviour and its description using a
plasticity framework so that they will be able to use finite element software in a
competent manner.
b. Related subject: Expansive Soil, Soft Soil, Soil Investigation, Slope Stability, Tunnel,
Retaining Wall and Deep Excavation, Earthquake, Hydraulic Related Failure.
2. Underground Construction.
a. Outcome: To introduce and give students a strong and interdisciplinary foundation
involving sign, construction, rehabilitation and management of underground space
including caverns, shafts and tunnels for commercial, transportation, water and
wastewater use.
b. Related subject: Pile Structure, Tunnel, and Retaining Wall and Deep Excavation.
3. Earth Retaining Structure.
a. Outcome: Attendee of this course will be able to understand and deal with issues
associated with design and construction of earth retaining structures.

and Deep Excavation.
4. Geotechnical Investigation and Modelling.

5. Geomechanics.

6. Soil Dynamics.
a. Outcome: To introduce to students the fundamentals of soil dynamics and on its use
for geotechnical design and risk assessment in areas of high seismicity.

7. Seepage and Groundwater.
a. Outcome: To introduce to students the concept of movement of water flowing
through the ground and cases related to it.

8. Consolidation of Soil.
a. Outcome: To introduce

9. Analytical and Numerical Methods.

interpolation, approximation of functions, integration, differential equations, direct
and iterative methods in linear algebra.

10. Probability and Statistics.
a. Outcome: To teach skills in understanding whether data is meaningful, including
optimization, inference, testing, and other methods for analysing patterns in data
and using them to predict, understand, and improve results.

11. Computer Aided Design.
a. Outcome: This course provides comprehensive training on Computer Aided Design
software. The range of CAD training qualifications will help you develop your career
in manufacturing or engineering design, whether you're just starting out or you're
an experienced designer looking to acquire specialist 2D/3D design skills.

12. Engineering Geology.
a. Outcome: To teach students the advanced skills needed to understand the impact of
geological conditions on engineering structures such as tunnels, dams, mines,
quarries, offshore platforms and wind farms, plan and conduct detailed
investigations into surface and subsurface geology to identify adverse ground
conditions, and design suitable remedial measures for these types of structures.

support techniques, and appreciation of potential hazards and the considerable risks
involved in excavation.

2. Underground Space.
a. Outcome: To introduce to students the concepts to be able to analyze and structure
the complex decision making process that is related to the use

3. Ground Improvement.

5. Sensors and Signal Interpretations.
a. Outcome: To teach students about signal and data processing for sensor systems.

a. Outcome: To teach students a trace plan determination for a tunnel and the pre-
design of a construction pit as an entrance- or exit-shaft for this tunnel

a. Outcome: To helps students to build an understanding of trenchless construction
and technology within applications geared for infrastructure industries.

10. Rock Fracture Mechanics.
