A bridge

A bridge is a civil infrastructure building that is part of a road infrastructure network that functions to
overcome obstacles on the road path. Obstacles can be in the form of valleys, streams, sea or other
trajectories. Bridges can be classified based on various criteria.

Based on its function, the bridge is divided into:

1. Bridges that cross water (rivers, seas and so on) (aquaduct)

2. A bridge that crosses another road, usually called a viaduct.

3. A bridge for motorized vehicle traffic (highway bridge)

4. Pedestrian bridge (pedestrian bridge

bridge construction methods are also constantly evolving. The bridge was built in a period where
structural analysis science had not yet been invented. Bridges built during this era generally have simple
structural forms (for example using a simple beam structure with naturally made pedestals) and are
designed only based on experience and trial and error. As technology continues to develop, the
structures and forms of bridges that are being built are increasingly diverse and complex. However, the
basic things that generally affect the choice of structure type and shape are the length of the span, the
condition of the contour of the resistant surface as well as the size and / or type of traffic.

Bridge components:

The superstructure usually consists of the vehicle floor, the main girder and / or the bridge frame
structure.

The substructure generally consists of piers, foundations and abutments.
