Rationale:
Social media helps students in different ways from getting tips on the latest information such as
assignments, getting to grips with complex educational topics, preparing for exams, honing note-
taking and learning skills, choosing the right career, and participating in group discussions. But it
could be seen for reduces academic performance is one of the most important consequences of
social networking overuse for students. There are some studies that students who used social
networks and the internet more than average had poor academic achievement and low level of
concentration in the classroom.

C. Research Purpose Statement:

The researchers aim to report on a recent study that investigated the distance learner's voice in
relation to their 'lived experiences' of the use of information and communication technologies
including new media for student's academic performances. This study reported on here sought to
understand how distance learners are using new technology and media on how it benefits their
academics.

D. Conceptual or Theoretical Framework:

De Gruyter Open Poland (2015) In this theory, Over the past decade, media has undergone a
fundamental shift. Traditional media such as television and radio provided content in a one-
directional manner, disseminating content created by a company or corporation to be consumed
by passive viewers. Alternatively, new media - often called social media or interactive media -
provide endless opportunities for users and students to act as both consumers and creators of
media. Such as posting a new photo to Instagram, commenting on a YouTube video, sighting via
google, etc.
According to this theory, the progress and development of a person have something to do with
involving social media. This theory will lead the researcher to the possible outcome that Every
person especially students need some strong resources to make their performance better.
Therefore by the use of social media, students especially for education would be agreeable and
would help their academic performances by depending on it.
Herbert J. Walberg (n.d.) Several studies have been done to identify problems that affect
student’s academic performance. The students’ academic performance depends on several socio-
economic factors like students’ presence of the trained teacher in school, teacher-student ratio,
attendance in the class, sex of the student, family income, mother and father education and
distance of schools.
The researchers believe that every student has a lot of foundation where could help them to
develop their academic performances therefore this research is going to achieve the possible
outcome when academics are working with depending on social media usage. The theories
mentioned above truly lead the researcher that social media has great help and contribution to the
academic performances of every student, especially for education students.

E. Research Design:
Qualitative research is intended to penetrate the significance of the subject research. The
qualitative method used is phenomenology. It focused on the study of phenomena, their nature,
and meaning. The focus is on the way things appear to people through experience or
consciousness. Correlation Research po ito
