Welcome to AVID - Advancement via Individual Determination!  
I  am  truly  looking forward to meeting and engaging with all of you 
this year. 

Our  class  meeting  time  is  ​11:30am-12:40pm​,  on  ​A  days​.  This  is  a  unique  class 
that will have a lot of individualized activities based on your own schoolwork. 

Speaking  of  Zoom,  our  first  Zoom  class  will  be  ​Tuesday,  September  8  at 
11:30am​.  Our Zoom ID and password will be the same throughout the year unless 
there is a security issue that causes me to change it.

Tools we’re using for remote learning this fall: 

You  should  have  recently  received  your  Red  Clay  Back-to-School  Starter  Kit  in  the 
mail.  This  item  contains  logins  for  remote  learning  (Google,  Chromebook, 
Schoology, ClassLink). 
 
Students  will  get  your  Chromebook,  school  supplies,  and  curriculum  materials  at 
our school’s distribution events tomorrow and Thursday. 
 
There are no specific course materials for AVID. 

Social/Emotional/Mental Health Support at Conrad 

We  built  time  into  our  schedule  to  support  students’  social  and  emotional 
wellbeing.  This  time  is  critical  to  building  relationships  and  supporting  students. 
Furthermore,  should  any  students  desire  additional  support,  information  for  our 
high  school  guidance  counselors,  school  nurse,  school  psychologist,  and  Wellness 
Center can be found H ​ ERE​.

The  best  way  to  reach  me  is  through  email  (​Katelyn.Varga@RedClaySchools.com​).  I 
do  not  anticipate  being  in  the  school  building  often  during  this  remote  period,  so  I 
will not receive voicemails in a timely manner. I will do my best to respond to emails 
within 24 hours or by the next work day (if during a weekend or holiday).

Tips for Success 

Attendance,  participation  in  learning  activities,  and  completion  of  assignments  are 
the best way for students to achieve academic success. 
 
I  will  provide  more  detailed  information  about  attendance  and  grading  in  the 
coming weeks.
