Bangabandhu Island (BBI) is a newly shaped island covering a part of approximately 8 sq.km.
within the south-western coast of Bangladesh. it's placed at a distance of regarding 8.5 km
south of Hiron point , regarding thirty five kilometer north of the piece of material of no ground
(Islam and Saha, 2017).Bangabandhu Island in the western Bengal shelf is a newly developed
island that has undergone several episodes of sediment deposition, erosion and redeposition
.The lower delta plain might receive sediment from off-shore throughout the periodic event
and storm high-water events, bettering soil loss through subsidence (Allison and Kepple, 2001).
Goodbred and Kuehl have incontestible that the Bangabandhu Island consists of 50% clay
content. within the lower delta plain, sediment yield accretion with a general trend of
decreasing rates with increasing distance from Bangabandhu Island (Allison and Kepple,
2001).Assuming a mean sediment density of 1.3g/cm3, a complete of 3.7 x107tonnes/year is
accumulating on the lower delta plain region that has extremely influenced the bottom
geography modification together with the formation of Putney Island among the west,
Bangabandhu Island among the center and Dublar char (island) among the east (Islam and
Saha, 2017).

Geomorphologically, Bangabandhu island is featured with sand dunes, sandy beach, mudflat,
tidal-flat, supra tidal-flat, intertidal zone and tidal water bodies (Islam and Saha, 2017). During
the last four decades, the island had experienced several changes in its position, shape and
size, and gets its present size and shape only in last 5-7 years (Islam and Saha, 2017). Heavy
mineral deposits have additionally been known in the in depth sand-bedded river systems of
the Bangabandhu island (Ahmed et al., 2010, Rahman et al., 2016, Biswas et al., 2018). The
most usually known significant minerals in Bangabandhu Island deposits are mineral, zircon,
rutile, monazite and transparent gem (Biswas et al., 2018).The vertical sediment layers of the
Bangabandhu Island can reflect the depositional environment, sediment characteristics, and
chemical and mineralogical composition. Bangabandhu Island is less than 40 years old and its
height above sea level is not so identical (Islam and Saha, 2017).
