Welcome to the Academic Session on Blackboard!

Dear Students,

We welcome you all to the new academic session of Chandigarh University. We hope that
you all are rejuvenated and ready for the ultra-experience of Blackboard for the teaching
learning activities. A detailed timetable of online classes is available with you on CUIMS. All
registered students are required to use their CUIMS login credentials for Blackboard login
and to join online classes as per their timetable.

Kindly adhere to the following Virtual Classroom Rules and ‘Online Etiquette
Protocol’:

STUDENT PROTOCOL FOR ATTENDING ONLINE CLASSES THROUGH BLACKBOARD

All online/virtual classes are formal classes, hence, there are certain rules that must be
strictly followed.

1. Please login to your CUIMS to see your class timetable. Type the below given URL to
access CUIMS on any browser :
https://uims.cuchd.in/uims/
Fill the username and password provided to you on this link. After successfully
logging in to CUIMS click on the My Time Table option to view the timetable as shown
in the image below:

After clicking on My Time Table the screen will contain your actual timetable as
shown in the image below:
Each entry in the grid above shown represents a live session which contains details
like subject-code, group, practical and group. You will have to attend the live classes
of all subjects on the blackboard.

For attending the live class the first step is to open the below link and enter the
CUIMS username and password:

2. After successfully logging in the dashboard will contain a navigation drawer at the left of
the screen where the student needs to click on Courses to view all the subjects of the
semester. The course names in Blackboard will be in the form of Subject Code_Section
Name_Group. For example,

 for the theory courses, it shall be visible as CST-203_18CSE-1_All (for all groups)
 for the practical or tutorial classes, it shall be visible as CSP-201_18CSE-1_A (for
group A)

3. You should verify that all the courses (along with the sections and groups) are visible in
your Blackboard dashboard as per your timetable.

4. To join a classroom session as per your timetable:

 Login to Blackboard with your CUIMS login credentials.


 Click on the specific course at the time of the class (as mentioned in the timetable)
 Click on “Join Session” link under Blackboard Collaborate. The session name will be
visible as Day_Lecture No._Theory (e.g. Mon_L2_Theory and Tues_L3_Practical).
The dropdown will be visible after clicking on the downward arrowhead written
along with Join session.
6. Be ready for the online class at least 10 minutes before the class time and sit in a quiet
place without any distraction and disturbance.

7. All students must be properly and decently dressed. Punctuality and discipline are
essential to truly gain from the teaching learning management system.

8. Use a pair of earphones for good voice quality.

9. Keep your books, notebooks, stationery, and other materials (such as calculators) at hand
before the start of the class.

10. Check your internet connection before the session begins. You should join at least 10
minutes before the start time of class.

11. Frequent latecomers will be barred from joining future sessions. You should be present
for at least 80% time duration of any class, otherwise, you shall be marked as ABSENT for
that class. The attendance of the class will be automatically marked by Blackboard.

12. In case you are not able to login, be patient and try again. You can send an email
regarding the same to bb.support@cumail.in. The IT admin will address your concern and
resolve the issue at the earliest.

13. In case of any query other than blackboard concerns, you can send an email to
studentcare@cumail.in. The student care representatives will help to resolve your
concern at the earliest.

14. Greet your teachers at the beginning and at the end of the online class. Use attentive
body language, sit up straight, do not make extraneous movements and pay attention to the
teacher. Do not post objectionable emoji or chats during the session.

15. Do not eat during the session. Please eat your food and use washrooms during the 15
minutes break time allotted after every class.

16. In case you wish to ask an urgent question during the session, you may use the chat
function. You can use ‘post feedback’ or ‘raise hand’ features during the session. Teachers
may also give students an opportunity to ask questions verbally towards the end of the
session.
17. Nod your response for the various engagement activities planned by your teacher.
Provide response for raise hand activities, student feedback, and poll activities.

18. Please leave the session after the class time is OVER. The teacher shall leave the session
only after all the students have left.

19. If any student is found disturbing the class by posting unnecessary chats or feedbacks,
he/she will be removed from the class and would be marked as absent. It is for the benefit
of all that decorum of the class is maintained at all times.

20. Apart from the online live sessions, students are expected to contribute and perform
various assessment and engagement tasks (Graded and Non-graded) for every course
posted by the teacher.

21. Each student’s activity per week for every course and for every task shall be monitored
by the concerned teacher and/or by the concerned class mentor.

22. Students are advised to read the netiquette guidelines available in every course on
Blackboard for attempting the assessment/engagement tasks.

23. Students are advised to download the Blackboard App to get push notifications for
updates posted in their courses by their teachers.

It is important that all students attend the online classes regularly and make optimal use of
the opportunity available to them.
