Junior Cert business CBA 1 for second year students

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Students,

During the next 4 weeks the second year students will be completing their business studies CBA 1.
CBA stands for curriculum based assessment and is an on-going assessment over 4 weeks. The
business CBA is worth 10% of the overall junior cert business course. Students will complete the first
CBA 1 now in second year and it is worth 5%. Students will complete the final CBA 2 in third year and
it is also worth 5%.

For this CBA1 we will focus on the section of Enterprise in Action. Under enterprise in action, we will
focus on the chapter of Marketing. Each student will be required to research and develop a
marketing mix for a new ice cream product. Students will work on this project individually and at the
end of the 4 weeks they are required to submit a poster of their new product along with a reflection
of their CBA. Students will create a new ice cream product and will be required to apply the
appropriate marketing mix for their product. The following is the Learning Outcomes of the
marketing CBA and weekly plans for the 4 weeks of the CBA.

Learning Outcomes for the CBA:

 Understand the difference between field and desk research.


 Conduct a survey or questionnaire and evaluate the results.
 Design and create a product in line with the marketing mix
 Complete an action plan in relation to the marketing mix for the new product.
 Evaluate and Reflect on the CBA.

Brief summary of the next 4 weeks is as follows:

Week 1:
 Students will carry out research such as a survey/questionnaire in order to gather
information on the new ice cream product they are creating.
 Students will brainstorm ideas/questions that could be asked in the survey in relation to
their project.
 Students will carry out a survey/questionnaire with one another. Students will send out
surveys to their classmates through their school email address.
Week 2:
 Students will collect the findings from their survey through their school email address.
 Students will evaluate and analysis their findings.
 Students will represent their findings on a bar chart.
 Students will understand concepts of the marketing mix from my PowerPoint.
 Students will then apply the marketing mix to their new product.
Week 3:
 Students will conduct an action plan in relation to their products marketing mix.
 Students will draw a picture of their final product on their poster.
 Students will finalize their poster and get it ready for submission.
Week 4:
 Students will reflect on their experience of the project in a class discussion.
 Students will individually fill out the reflection report template and submit it with their
final project.
