Wecare id: A platform to solve the healthcare issue in Indonesia

Healthcare issue is the most crucial thing for every country in the world. In order to make a great
country, healthcare issue is one of the leading support factors. With a great system of healthcare, therefore
people can stay healthy and be more productive while doing their activities. To build a great system there are
several factors that a country needs. Such as a good governance, a great birocracy, and a lot of revenue. Those
factors mostly exist in a developed countries, meanwhile it’s so hard to find that in a developing countries, The
reason is that developing countries have a low capacity to make a great system in this healthcare section. And
the difficulties come when there is a long gap between the rich and the poor that formed inside the developing
countries. Therefore, people who is wealthy can get more opportunity to be healthy.

Background
Indonesia is one of the example to this problem. With a population totaling around 260 million
individuals, Indonesia is the fourth-largest country in terms of population size. This fact shows that to achieve
the equality of healthcare in Indonesia is quite
challenging and complicated. The current situation of
healthcare in Indonesia, that there are two types of health
insurance. The first is he private insurance and the other
one is the national insurance. In 2014 Indonesia has
launched a national insurance. The purpose of this action,
is to facilitate people that are struggling to pay their
medical bills. Since the private insurance costs a lot of
money, therefore the government is trying to support
with this national insurance. Unfortunately, it can’t solve
this problem. The reason is that the procedure to apply
the national insurance is very complicated and take lots
of time. Moreover, even people with national insurance
they still have to dealing with this kind of situation and
they still need to pay amount of money from their own. And also, this problem can be bigger when there is no
right solution to solve it. Although, untill now Indonesia still trying to find the best solution to solve this major
problem.

Recently, there is a way to solve this problem. Mesty Ariotedjo and Gigih Rezky Septianto are an
indonesian youth that trying to create something to solve this matter. Creating a crowdfunding website platform
in 2015, they believed that they can contribute to solve the
healthcare issue in Indonesia. This platform called wecare.id.
Wecare.id is a medical crowdfunding platform which trying to
fullfill the gap for the medical funds that cannot be covered by
national insurance. With the tagline “Towards Equal, Healthy
Indonesia” wecare.id believed that they can achieve an equal healthcare for everyone in Indonesia. With more
than 3.000 donors and over 196 patients this platform has already make an impact to the society especially, the
one that struggling to pay the medical bills.

BUSINESS MODEL

The reason why there are already people that have a trust on this platform is because of their simple
business model and their trans- Source: wecareid official website
parancy. Actually, there are only
3 parts of their business model.
First, the hospital has to inform wecare id if they found a patient with special desease and urgently needs money
to pay the bills. After that, wecare id will do the crowdfunding by posting the patient into the website. And for
the donors, they can choose the patient that they want to help. After wecare id got the money they can donor the
money to the patient. The transparancy of wecare id also build the trust between the donors and the patients. So,
basically the donors can see how much the money from the other donors that has already sent to the patients.
Because we care id is a social business entreprise, they get profit from 10% from every donations. And also the
support from organizations and company make this business sustainable untill now.

Located in Kemang South Jakarta, our team

OUR HOPE FOR WECARE ID

Eventhough, we felt that they still have some problem to be dealing with.
First, we felt that the government feeling distracted of their existency. We think that the government are afraid
that people will not have a trust on the national insurance
anymore. Second, they still trying to expand their Chatting between patients and
people who want to donate
business to the other parts of Indonesia. Third, they don’t
have a tool for foreign people to donate in their platform. Exhibition of patients

Fortunately, we had an interview with one of the patient in

we care id. This little boy name is salim. He is still 2 years
old, he has a complication diseases such as hernia, epylepsi,
malnutrition, and other disease. The doctor has diagnosed
the disease when he was 3 months old. When we were there
we had a kind of mental shock because he was born in a
poor family. His dad works as angkot driver and his mom is
just a house wife. And one thing that make us get more
shock is that they don't have a house in here so they live in a madrasah or little mosque. So they need to move
temporarily. And what Wecare id do for him? So, long story short we care id trying to help them by paying the
medical bills, accomodation, and also buying the milk cans. Because, the boy needs to drink at least 15 cans of
milk every month.

We had so much experience after we joined this program ,

and we think that we also have to do and create something in order to
make a good impact in our society. As a human being and also a
young generation we are the agent of change and we are the hope
for this world in the future. And by joining this program it’s a such
great stepping stone for us to think what we are going to make in the
future. THANK YOU WE CARE ID AND THANK YOU ASEP
Jakarta 2017!
