The Heist

The late princess’s crown was locked and stowed in the middle of the palace. The box that
keeps the crown is secured with guards surrounding it, armed with guns. The crown itself is
described as the most dazzling thing to have been ever been created. The crown is heavily
built because it is adorned with precious stones. That’s what the two thieves have heard
from the tavern. They wanted to know whether it was true and here they are in the midst of
a life-threatening heist.
This wasn’t what Louis wanted, but for Matilda, it’s the right thing to do from her point of
view. They were just mediocre thieves or known as pickpockets. Taking money from Lady’s
purses and sliding the Lord’s watches off their wrists are one of their specialities, but
according to the thieves that reside in the tavern, a mere child can do this. For this reason,
they are always ridiculed. They are considered to be at the bottom of the rank. The thieves
in the tavern are ruthless and skilful, ranging their crimes from stealing cars to bank
robberies. Matilda had enough of their mockery and decided to take things to her own
hands.
They have suffered, both coming from poor families and their only option is stealing.
Stealing for food, money for rent. In other words, stealing to survive. By stealing the crown,
they will get a far better life. Expensive coloured clothes, leather shoes, pieces of jewellery
adorned with expensive stones and a huge house with fields as far as your eyes can see.
Matilda thought about all the luxuries she could have at her fingertips. Her train of thought
was interrupted by the clink of the lock being broken. It was time. They quietly made their
way through the fence, careful not to make a single noise for that will alert the palace
guards.
The inside of the palace was dark and quiet. There was no one on sight, be it a guard or a
cleaner, it was just the two thieves. They navigated around the palace rooms, being careful
not to reveal themselves and attempted to find the room which holds the late princess’s
crown. While searching for the crown room, they slightly cracked each door open to see
what’s inside. Each room was grander than the next, decorated with chandeliers, velvet-
covered sofas and expensive trinkets adorned the rooms. Matilda and Louis didn’t know
how long it took them to find the crown room, but it must have taken forever.
The crown room was the darkest room out of all the rooms they have been in. The only
thing that is lighting the room up is the illumination from the moon coming from the
windows. There weren’t any guards with guns securing the crown. The crown itself was
secured in a glass box, and the rumours they heard from the tavern were not entirely true
only the fact that the crown was dazzling, it was adorned with every precious stone that
Matilda and Louis have never even seen.
They slowly went towards the glass box, tiptoeing, being careful not to step on a creaking
board or knocking anything off. But the thing was, Louis couldn’t keep his eyes off the crown
and thus stepping on a creaking floorboard. The noise echoed loudly throughout the room,
both Matilda and Louis standing still for a couple of seconds. Their hearts beating fast and
their worst nightmare coming true at this very moment.
Pairs of footsteps made their way to the crown room. The two guards who were in charge,
Alfred, and Frank, upon hearing the noise, made their way towards the room. Alfred opened
the door and looked around, there wasn’t anyone. He came inside and started to look
around and as he was looking around, the thieves were both hiding in the shadows. Both
the guards were looking around making sure nothing went wrong and at that moment,
Frank came close to Louis’s hiding spot. Louis held his breath for the guard not to find him.
After what seemed like an eternity, both guards left concluding there was nothing wrong
and the source of noise must have come from somewhere else.
Both thieves emerged from their hiding spots and went straight into opening the glass box.
As Louis was breaking the lock, Matilda looked around and let out a sigh. She was feeling
exhausted from this night, she just wants to get this done and over with. She was pacing
around the room when Louis managed to break into the glass box and grab the crown. They
were both ecstatic and couldn’t hold it anymore longer. They took their time admiring the
crown, and it wasn’t as heavy as the people from the tavern has said. They stashed it in their
satchel and made their exit.
It was all over the newspaper the next morning. Headlines in every newspaper “The late
princess’s crown stolen!” It was the talk of the century, who was bold enough to steal the
crown in under high-security maintenance. The two thieves who were behind it, was at
their homes, taking turns admiring the crown. They were deciding on how to sell the crown
without raising any suspicions, their best choice was to carefully take off the jewels.
At that moment, someone knocked at their door and they both quickly hid the crown. The
person was someone from the tavern and they told them to come quickly to the town
square for that the late princess herself is going to make an announcement. Matilda and
Louis both looked at each other, hoping that no one saw them last night. All three of them
made their way to the town square and there the late princess stood, preparing herself to
make the announcement.
“Last night, my crown has been stolen. It is a very unfortunate event noting the fact that my
own Mother’s stone was put into my crown. I did that to remember and cherish my Mother.
But, I am not upset over the fact that my crown has been stolen. For that crown, was merely
a fake one.”
