SRP Topic ideas brainstorm: 03/02/21

 Does the different types of soils impact any change on the flowers?
 Does music have an effect on how different individuals work out?

I went to Ms. Sayed with my final idea for the student research project in order for her to
finalise and sign it.

BACKGROUND RESEARCH 06/02 – 07/02/21

For my research project I am doing different household cleaning products on plants and
finding out whether or not it will affect the growth of the plants. Since I have little time in
order for my experiment, I have researched about different plants that are suitable for growth
experiments.

The plants include:
 Cress : can sprout overnight, doesn’t require soil to grow & requires little or no care.
 Herbs : can sprout quickly, saves money .
 Beans : equivalent to cress, can be utilized to show growth in various conditions.
 Grass : grow very quickly
With all these options given, I have decided to go with beans and
use them as my experiments. The reason I have chosen beans is
that they sprout very quickly and that’s an important noting the
amount of time I have to carry out the experiment and they are
relatively cheap to buy.

The household products I will be using are window cleaner, dish

soap (water + dish soap), stain remover and water.  

I did a little bit of research on whether or not household

chemicals have any effect on plants. This is the website I have based on my information off.

2. Complete the aim, hypothesis, materials, method, and variables for the
experiment.

Experimental setup : for this experiment, I will be planting beans seeds into 4 pots and each
pot will have a different household product. This will impact the growth of the seeds.

Independent Variable: different household products and the increasing of the concentrations
of cleaning products.

Dependent variable: rate of seed growth 

10/02/21

Today, I have set up my experiment.

Day 1 (I have 4 plant pots, one for each independent variable, dish soap, water, stain
remover and window cleaner)

12/02/21 – 13/02/21
For these two dates, it has been raining really heavily. This can impact the results for my
experiment since it wouldn’t be accurate. The reason being is that only one of my plants is
supposed to have just water and whilst the others will have the other independent variables.
Since it has been raining, the water has gone to all of the plants and it can impact the growth
of my plants. (include this in the discussion)

14/02/21
So far, there hasn’t been any change. My plants haven’t sprouted yet.
I have sprayed the substances onto each plants.

15/02/21
Today, I have sprayed the plants.
To do list:
 Complete the abstract, background information, materials, and method for the
SRP.
 Continue to take pictures.

Today, as I was watering the plants, I have found out that my water and window cleaner
potted plants have sprouted. It was heavily raining in the evening.

Today, all my plants have sprouted, and my window cleaner plant has grown to 6 cm.

19/02/21
Today, I have measured all my plants. The window cleaner plant grew to a total of 12 cm.
The rest of the plants are still sprouting.

20/02/2021
Today, my window cleaner plant grew a total of 20
cm and the dish soap plant grew only 1 cm. The
water and the stain remover is till in their sprouting
stage.

21/02/21
Today, My window cleaner plant grew to a total of 26 cm and the Dish soap plant grew to 6
cm . My other plants haven’t grown at all.
