Subject: Periodical Testing of Cooling Water

Action code: AT FIRST OPPORTUNITY
Type: Laby® -GI Fuel Gas Compressor – All types

To whom it may concern,

Periodic analysis of coolant quality and inspection of the cooling water system is

mandatory. First cases are reported where components in the cooling water system and

the compressor failed due to corrosion.

Laby® -GI Fuel Gas Compressor system are provided with two individual cooling
systems. In general, the quality of both cooling water circuits (Fresh water and
Glycol/water) must be checked at least once a week. We therefore align our inspection
interval with the requirements of the engine licensor, MAN ES.
For more details, please refer to attached document, CL_031_00. If you have further

information, please contact Hyundai Global Service.

Faithfully yours,

P&I diagrams of the system can be found in the individual project

specific documentation and in the compressor's instruction manual.

Both circuits are supplied by external systems, designed and pro-

vided by the yard.

First coolant system filling is arranged by the yard during commis-

sioning.

Burckhardt Compression specifies minimum requirements concern-

ing general cooling water quality. Reference is made to the com-
pressor instruction manual chapter 3.4 and 8.6.5 "Cooling System"
and referenced documents.

Detailed cooling water treatment remains in the responsibility of

the operator. Currently, there are no guidance documents available
from Burckhardt Compression specifying selection or handling of
additives to the cooling water.

Within the scope of Burckhardt Compression, all materials in

contact with the coolant media are carbon steel resp. cast steel/
cast iron products. No aluminum is applied in the systems. Piping
systems are not galvanized.

As a basis for a proper cooling water quality, we recommend the

following major concentrations of the coolant media:

Parameter Concentration Range

System type Fresh water Glycol/water

Total hardness ≤ 10 dH ≤ 10 dH

pH value @ 20 °C 2 6.5 … 9.5 6.5 … 9.5

Chloride ion content ≤ 50 mg/L (≤ 50 ppm) ≤ 50 mg/L (≤ 50 ppm)

1
Compressors of type 6LP190 with piston rod diameter 75 mm are equipped with glycol/water cooling on the guide bearings.
2
Allowable upper limit of the pH value might be higher, based on requirements of chemical additive maker.
