1.OBJECT
The object of this norme is to describe the general rules for the compilation of test methods. The definition and
classification of test methods are given in norme A10 0151.

2.STRUCTURE OF A TYPICAL TEST METHOD

2.1.TITLE
The title must include:
• Firstly, the designation of the relevant materials, substances, or products; in the case of several
designations, a comma is used to separate them, except for the last two which are separated by “and” (do
not use the term “or”). It is recommended to list the designations in alphabetical order.
• Secondly, the designation of the measurement or verification.
• Thirdly, if applicable, the designation of the specific technique(s) used.

2.2.FOREWORD
If the relevant test method is applied by several Groups, the foreword, printed in italic, must contain accordingly, the
following text.

2.2.1.TEST METHODS WITH IDENTICAL CLASSIFICATION INDEX NUMBERS

“This document is established by the Groups ---, --- and ---. It must not be modified without prior consultation with
the Normalisation Services of these Groups. It is in conformity with the agreement between these Groups in ...
(month and year)".

2.2.2.TEST METHODS WITH DIFFERENT CLASSIFICATION INDEX NUMBERS

"This document is equivalent to the test method(s) of the Group(s) --- n° ---, (and--- n° ---). It must not be modified
with prior consultation with the Normalisation Service(s) of this/these Group(s). It is in conformity with the
agreement reached between this/these Group(s) and PEUGEOT S.A. in ... (month and year)".

2.3.OBJECT FIELD OF APPLICATION

This paragraph must begin: “The object of this method is …” (do not use “ the description of a method of operation
for …”), followed by the object, the detailed field of application and restrictions.

Example of restriction : "This method does not apply to “or” for certain materials, use test method …".

When the method is drawn from an external document, it must be quoted at the end of the paragraph (for
example: “This document is drawn from the international ISO norme …). The references to these documents must
be stated in the paragraph “Reference Documents”.

2.4.PRINCIPLE
This paragraph defines the general test description.

2.5.DEFINITION OF TERMS AND SYMBOLS

This paragraph occurs only if the terms and symbols are numerous and unusual.

2.6.EQUIPMENT AND REAGENTS

(Equipment is always singular, and reagents is plural if there are many reagents).
Classify by order of decreasing importance all constituents of the equipment, then all the reagents sorted in the
same order.
If the number of constituents in the paragraph “Equipment and reagents” is too large, divide into two distinct
paragraphs “Equipment” and “Reagents”.
The reference dictionary for reagents is the catalogue PROLABO, in its latest version.

2.7.PREPARATION OF SOLUTIONS
This paragraph defines the operations to be made in order to obtain the solutions necessary to complete the test.

2.8.PREPARATION OF TEST SPECIMENS

This paragraph defines how to produce or sample the test specimens as well as the prior operations to be carried
out.
Do not use the term sample except for some specific cases (liquids, greases etc). In this case the title of the
paragraph becomes “PREPARATION OF SAMPLES”

2.9.MODE OF OPERATION
This paragraph gives the detailed description of the test.
During drafting, the number of the paragraph corresponds to an equipment or reagent must be referenced in
brackets. Example: “Place acid (4.5) in the beaker (3.6)”.
Each operation must be the object of a new sub-paragraph and must be preceded by a dash. In the case where
one or several sub-paragraphs are quote in the test method, replace the dash by a number for each paragraph.

2.10.EXPRESSION OF RESULTS
This paragraph specifies how the results must be expressed and, if applicable, the calculation method to be used.
Units must be expressed in legal units, defined for RENAULT by norme 01-00-100, and for PEUGEOT S.A. by
French norme NF X 02-006.
Formulas: The value of the result must be followed by “expressed in” and the unit. The formula must be preceded
by “ obtained by means of the following formula:” The formula must be followed by a sub paragraph including:
"in which:
argument = description of the argument + "expressed in" + corresponding unit".
Example :
The sliding force "E", expressed in newtons per metre (N/m), is obtained by means of the following

L = length expressed metres (m).

2.11.RELIABILITY
The level of reliability is defined by:
• Repeatability corresponding to the variation of measurements carried out in the following conditions :
• On same materials, substances or products,
• On a specific technique,
• By one person only,
• On the same equipment,
• In one laboratory only,
• In a short space of time (to be specified).
• Reproducibility taking into consideration the variation of measurements carried out in the following
conditions :
• On same materials, substances or products,
• By several operators,
• On equipment located in various laboratories,
• At different time

2.12.REMARKS
This paragraph states, if applicable, comments specific to this test method. The specific comments to one
paragraph are added as a footnote at the end of the relevant paragraph.

2.13.TEST REPORT
This paragraph specifies all the information which must be included in the test report: results, reference to the test
method, reference of materials or substances or products tested and used, names of suppliers, date of
manufacture, recorded incidents etc …
The typical text of the test report is: “As well as the results obtained, the test report must include:
• The reference to this method,
• etc.,
• The reference of the product tested, and the name of the supplier,
• etc.,
• The operational details not specified in the method as well as any incidents likely to affect the results.”

2.14.REFERENCE DOCUMENTS
This paragraph recalls the reference to all documents quoted in all the paragraph, except those stated in the
foreword.
The indices of National, European or International documents must be followed by their dates of edition (month and
year).
Note: For RENAULT, the reference documents for information are marked with an asterisk (*); a note at the end of
the paragraph specifies : "reference document(s) for information only, not required for carrying out the test".

3.DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL PROCESSES

In general, one process relates to one method. But it may be the case that several processes relate to one method
(For example: several processes may be described because of various equipment or different viscosities.)
If several processes are used, these must be described in the paragraph “Object and field of application”. The
various processes are the subject of main paragraphs and bears the title “PROCESS” followed by a letter taken in
alphabetical order. Paragraph detailing them are then the subject of sub-paragraphs.
