HALUOLEO AIRPORT

Haluoleo Airport is an airport in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia (IATA: KDI, ICAO:
WAWW). The name of the airport was previously named Robert Wolter Monginsidi, an
Indonesian national hero who was executed by the Dutch during the Indonesian National
Revolution. Since February 13, 2010, the airport has been renamed in honor of the sixth
Sultanate of the Buton Sultanate, Halu Oleo. The new terminal opened on 6 April 2012.
Haluoleo services have experienced several service improvements, mainly with 3 aerobridge
facilities that make it easier for passengers to enter the departure and arrival airport terminal
areas and to and from the aircraft. The airport apron is now also experiencing expansion and can
accommodate eight wide-body aircraft in its class such as the Boeing 737-900ER and Airbus
A320.
At present, the Haluoleo service is being pursued as a transit airport for flights in eastern
Indonesia, in addition to the Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar which currently has a solid
capacity. It is expected that in the future, by transit at the airport, the operating costs of the
aircraft can be reduced because it can save fuel.
In 2011, the apron was expanded from 195x91 square meters to 234x113 square meters. The
runway is still being expanded from 2,250 meters to 2,500 meters and completed at the end of
2012.
