6 Eisode

 The presenters drove from Peori to the southwest , through the states of
Missouri and Kansas, arrived in Oklahoma and stopped in the most
northeastern corner, in Miami.
 Miami Main Street - is a segment of the legendary Transcontinental Highway
No. 66. «Road 66» is a symbol of America. it was on this road, still
unfinished, that the couple Adams and Ilf and Petrov traveled in 1935.
Construction was completed four years later, in 1939,
 A foreigner who does not even speak English can easily ride the American
road. He will not get lost here in a foreign country. In these roads, even a child,
even a deaf-mute, will understand on his own. They are carefully renumbered,
and numbers are found so often that it is impossible to make a mistake in the
direction .
 It used to be called the main road because it was an important connecting
point. The road ran from Northeast to Southwest and so it passed through many
cities.
 Eisenhower once visited Hitler's Germany, where he saw the perfect roads and
upon arriving back to America in 1952 decided to do the same . That`s why
American roads are perfectly level.
 Gallup is a city that has attracted many producers to make westen films here.
The capital of the American western.
 Many famous actors lived in the El Ranco hotel.
 People in Gallup often visit shopping malls on weekends.
 Indians make up 40% of the population in this city.
 Once upon a time, Americans often used the term reservation to describe
Indian settlements. Because Americans used to consider Indians as wild tribes,
but knew that there was a lot of oil and coal there, so they drove them out of
their territories.
 The Neboho Tribe assisted the US Army, because they could speak their
Indian language and so they encrypted.
 Pueblo is the only Indian tribe in America that still living on its territory.
 Puelo are Catholics, but very strange because at Christmas and Easter, they
carry out a statue of a Madonna and dance near it, and then pray. I didn't know
before Indians make up 40% of the population in

My impressions

After watching this series, I can say that with each new episode I like this series more
and more. This series allows me to get acquainted with the most interesting features
of each US city. I didn't know before about Pueblo , but thanks to the series I found
out that is the only Indian tribe in America that still living on its territory.

7 episode of the series “Little Golden America”

 In this episode, the presenters visited Santa Fe and Grand Canyon.

 Posner mentioned that americans have a great character trait - they will always
tell you the way, even if they busy.
 Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico and it is one of the oldest cities in the
United States.
 Santa Fe is home to perhaps the oldest surviving US building, namely a house
built by order of the King of Spain in 1610. Built of powerful dark wooden
beams, the building initially served as a fort, and then became the residence of
the Spanish governor. Today it is a museum.
 There are many Indians in Santa Fe. But there are no cowboys at all. But there
are many American men of average age and above.
 Most Americans are willing to overpay for US-made goods.
 In fact, it’s already hard to find a product in America that says “Made in
U.S.A.” - all the products with the label “Made in China” come across.
 From Santa Fe, they traveled to Colorado Springs, where the United States Air
Force Academy is located.
 United States Air Force Academy is a real sightseeing attraction and pride of
the state. After President Eisenhower signed an order to build the academy in
1954, Coloado Springs was selected from 580 cities. $ 42 million has been
earmarked for construction. The Academy area is 10 thousand hectares.
 Women study here on a par with men and 20% of students are women.
 There is a temple on the territory of the Academy. This is a huge building
crowned with fourteen towers. In short, a mixture of Disneyland and Harry
Potter Hogwarts.
 Basic Cadet training is needed to make the last choice of whether you want to
stay or not. Studying here is free if the student, after graduation, gets over the
army, and if not, he or she have to pay $ 16,000.Students often complain about
poor nutrition.
 Cadets have a number of rules, for example: : first-year сadets should always
sit upright; students should only rotate at right angles and carry their backpacks
in their hands.
 Cadets always have the right to refuse the order of the commander-in-chief.
 Gyrfalcon is the symbol of this academy.
 New Pity has opened a museum of old petrol station equipment in Arizona.
 The Grand Canyon is a fantastic place. Americans are very careful about such
monuments, so they are forbidden to litter, tear flowers and take stones home.

My impressions
Thanks to this episode I have learned a lot of interesting information about
Santra Fe - one of the oldest cities in the United States. The rules of the United
States Air Force Academy impressed me the most. I think the students of this
academy are very disciplined and have a strong willpower. This episode
described the greatness and beauty of the city and the Academy. This allowed
me to imagine that I was looking it for real, not through the screen.

8 episode of the series “Little Golden America”

 In this episode, the presenters visited Las Vegas. On the first evening, they
met a man whose profession was to be a double of Elvis
 Presley is an American icon, which occupies a completely exclusive place on
the American iconostasis, but Posner admitted that the incredible popularity
of Presley in America remains a mystery to him.
 Posner noticed that Las Vegas affects people differently: some people go to
the casino and others do obscure things.
 Vegas is a city that never sleeps in a cube. This is the world capital of
gambling, the world capital of kitsch, the world capital of show business, a
magnet that attracts four times more tourists annually than the Grand
Canyon.
 Golden Gate is the oldest Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. It was opened in
1906.
 Las Vegas is the brightest city in America, it is also the most growing.
 Oscar Goodman, the mayor of the city, at one time became famous for being
the chief lawyer of the mafia and he is not ashamed of it. Moreover, later he
opened a mafia museum in a former building of a city court.
 The main source of income for the city is the gambling business, which,
through taxes, provides more than fifty percent of the state budget of Nevada.
In addition, show business here in Vegas has no equal in the world. The best
of the best are performing in Vegas, there is no genuine pop star who has not
been here, no musical, no circus that, having succeeded in Vegas, have not
become world triumphs.
 The city's main street is Las Vegas Boulevard.
 Las Vegas is like Disneyland for adults, where all the famous cities and
attractions of the world are gathered.
 Las Vegas has copies (scaled down , of course) of the Eiffel Tower, the
Statues of Liberty, the Pyramid of Cheops, the Venetian canals with
gondolas.
 This city is good for living because the locals do not pay revenue tax and
inheritance tax.
 Here you can both get married and get divorced in a few hours.
 The casino always has video surveillance for security and good reputation.
 «Vegas exists at the expense of losers»
 The casino has no clock or windows. This is to prevent people from noticing
how fast the time is and to keep playing.
 The more casinos, the more pawnshops. There are many different things to
find there.
 One in every ten Americans is addicted to games. Usually people hide it, but
special hospitals are set up for them to treat their addiction.
Мy impressions
Honestly, I couldn't wait to finally see the episode about the Las Vegas. Las
Vegas is a city of huge scale; everything is stupendously, head-spinningly big
It has landmarks from all over the world: scaled down copies of the Eiffel
Tower, the Statues of Liberty, the Pyramid of Cheops, the Venetian canals
with gondolas. It is a very vibrant and diverse city
9 episode of the series “Little Golden America”

 In this series, the presenters opened for me Los Angeles. They spent four days
in the City of Angels, as Los Angeles is often called.
 The Los Angeles Star Walk attracts a lot of fans.
 American cinema gave birth to the concept of movie star.
 It is the American cinema that has created such studios as Paramound, Metro-
Goldwyn-Mayer, Warner Bros., Columbia Pictures, and Twenty Sentry Fox.
 30 years is considered the golden age of American cinema. Hollywood "saved"
America. The country was deeply depressed. And then the dream factory
started producing films with the idea of a «happy end». It gave people hope.
 American cinema in the 20-30's set the standards of movie stars. These are
images of people who draw us into the screen. We look at them and embody
ourselves with them, we see in them those who would like to be themselves.
 The great Charlie Chaplin did not become a star, although everyone
acknowledged his genius, but he was too sophisticated and did not fit into
Hollywood standards.
 The Oscars factory, which opened in 1938, employs mainly Mexicans.
 Movies often use inflatable dolls to make a large crowd.
 The first Oscar ceremony was held in 1929 at the Roosevelt Hotel. Walt Disney
received the most Oscars and Charlie Chaplin received the least two.
 Sometimes gangster movies have a bad effect on people. They commit crimes
and do not think that they will be held responsible.
 There are 12 million Mexican emigrants in America.
 There are many gangs in this city. Mostly children go to such gangs because
they consider their lives hopeless. They are ready to do what senior gang
members would suffer more severe punishment for.
 Each gang has a "father" - the chief and he can be even 16 years old.
 It's easy to get into a gang, but it's hard to get out. Many people decide to cut
ties with such gangs and start a new life, so they remove old tattoos.
 Mexicans are often called Latinos. Americans still do not take this nation
seriously, it is a low-cost labour for them.

10 episode of the series “Little Golden America

 In this series, the presenters talked about Sun City. This city is a reservation for
those who are 55 years old or more. The idea of creating a city for retirees
came to mind of Delbert Eugene Wep. This happened in the late 50s and many
thought it was a bad idea. But all doubts were dispelled and already 327 houses
were sold in the first three weekends.
 One of the citizens of this town said that he has children, grandchildren and he
doesn`t like such an idea, because they cannot live with him. However, another
resident, Jenny Lienhard, noted that they were not forbidden to come. So, her
grandchildren came to her recently, and then she will go to them.
 People of respectable age do not sit back, they have a hobby. They make
jewelry and other things. For the opportunity to work, they have to pay $ 10 a
year, but for them, work in these workshops is vital.
 The inhabitants of this town are actively involved in sports, even at a
respectable age.
 Jenny Lienhard, a resident of the city, noted that they maintain cleanliness in
the streets, water trees, protect them from the sun and collect oranges.
 Norm Dixon added that they have a support fund. Some of it will pay part of
the costs.
 People here are incredibly worried about each other and always call each other
to make sure that they are all right. They are like one big, friendly family. In
this city there are many options for leisure: dance clubs, belly dance lessons, a
club of Latin American dances, as well as clubs for single people.
 Posner asked if there was crime in the city. Jim Dzhemeli answered that they
are more worried about external danger. However, sometimes there are
quarrels between couples.
 Next they visited the city of El Paso, bordering Mexico. Texas is a state whose
symbol is a cowboy.
 They met a real Texas cowboy, Mark Moore. He breeds calves and sells them
after birth through a video auction. Mark noted that farming has now become
less common. After graduating from college, Mark first sold cars, and then got
a place in the bank, things were going well, but he still returned to the ranch.
 Brian Kahn wondered why he made such a choice. Mark replied that he was
simply doing what he liked. He is confident that the rural way of life makes
people value life more.
 Faith is very important to Mark. Texas enters the so-called "Bible belt", where
they do not believe in Darwin's theory and consider every word of the Bible to
be true and regularly attend church.
 People like Mark are an `endangered species`. Less than 2% of people in
America work in agriculture and many don’t even know where they get their
meat and milk. Brian Kahn asked how he felt about this. Mark replied that
more and more land was allotted for the building of houses, although this is not
bad, but it makes you wonder if agriculture will remain in America, because
land prices are very high..
 Texas belongs to the well-armed states. Posner went into the arms store and
asked who bought the weapons. The seller, Karl Finney, replied that ordinary
people who are worried about high crime are buying weapons.
 A resident of Texas, Harriett Voorhees, spoke about the situation in which she
realized that only she can protect herself. She went hunting with her husband,
where they were attacked by seven men. They began to threaten to rape her.
Then she had a gun at hand. After they noticed it, they flowed in.
 In America, weapons make everyone equal, that is, weapons are an instrument
of democracy, they give equal rights.
 Brian Kahn admitted that he has been fond of hunting for 50 years and that he
also has 17 weapons, and his wife has 5. They use this weapon only for
sporting purposes and one gun for self-defense.

11 episode of the series “Little Golden America

 In this series, the presenters began their journey in a godforsaken place along
the road to San Francisco. It was an abandoned city, as it turned out, there are
many such in America.
 Urgant met Tony, who owns the museum. He told him that they were in the
oldest and richest gold mine in southern Nevada, and more than 100 years ago
there were more people living here than in Las Vegas.
 It was hard to believe that once it was a large and very famous city - Eldorado,
which attracted tourists from all over the world. It appeared thanks to people
who came in 1849 in the search of gold. Dozens of new cities formed,
thousands of people came here, but there wasn’t much gold, and the gold rush
ended as suddenly as it started.
 The city still attracts tourists, history buffs and movie producers. Dozens of
well-known films and hundreds of music and promotional videos have been
filmed here.
 Later, the presenters came to San Francisco. In their opinion, it was the most
beautiful city in the US, which did not remind them of America. They passed
through the Golden Gate Bridge - it connects the city of San Francisco in the
north of the San Francisco Peninsula and the southern part of Cape Marin. It is
a local landmark and one of the symbols of the United States.
 They continued their journey by traveling the city in a special public transport -
cable car. The trip to San Francisco was similar to the " roller coaster" and
brought a lot of strong feelings to the “passenger”. But in the city center there
is a part reminiscent of the flat St. Petersburg with its squares and wide
avenues. All other parts of San Francisco are a mixture of Naples and
Shanghai.
 Chinatown, which in San Francisco became the main settlement of Chinese
immigrants arriving in the United States in the nineteenth century across the
Pacific. Most Chinese immigrants of that time worked for large companies that
needed cheap labor, such as the construction of the Central Pacific and First
Transcontinental Railways.
 Posner and Urgant also visited the Silicon Valley .Many interesting facts have
been learned. Now, Silicon Valley is considered to be the largest Hi-Tech hub
in the United States. The offices of the largest electronics and software
companies are located here.
 Castro is a quarter known as a place of compact residence for representatives
of sexual minorities. The gay district is concentrated on Castro Street. In 2004,
the mayor of the city allowed to register same-sex marriages. State Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger overturned the law in 9 days, but over the past 9 days,
several thousand marriages have been registered.
 On the 5th day the journey of Posner and Urgant ended. They were very
pleased to visit San Francisco. And they understood why famous American
singers leave their hearts in this city.
12 episode of the series “Little Golden America
 In this episode, the presenters came to New Orleans. New Orleans is a
consolidated city-parish located along the Mississippi River in the southeastern
region of the U.S. state of Louisiana.
 Once Louisiana belonged to France. New Orleans was founded by the French,
so the French spirit has survived in New Orleans
 Canal Street overlooks the streets of Tafina, Toulouse, Royal and there are
even Champs Elysees. And in the Old Town, in Arno restaurant serves so
delicious coffee that is impossible to find in the whole America.
 The French Quarter is a symbol of the city of New Orleans. A small part of this
city was called Louisiana in honor of the King of France Louis. This name was
given by the French who settled here.
 And another interesting fact is that jazz originated in New Orleans.
 New Orleans can be called Venice because it stands on the water and has a
round shape.
 The city has always suffered from floods and fever.
 Hurricane Catherine caused great damage to the city. The city was flooded,
because dams that had not been repaired for a long time were destroyed. The
hurricane claimed 1,300 people. The authorities did not help the inhabitants of
this city at all.
 There is also a monument to the victims of the hurricane - these are red and
blue armchairs. People sit on red armchairs, and the blue ones are for those
who died, no one sits on them.
 Then the presenters went to the small town of Nyuis, which is a two-hour drive
from Orleans. Nyuisi has a music cafe that Pozner had already visited before.
 Every Saturday, people come to the cafe to play musical instruments. Mark,
the owner of a music cafe, says that the people who come are very sincere and
pleasant.
