5.

Do the following steps consecutively!

1. Determine the function value of 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 by completing the following table.
𝑦 = 𝑥 2 , −3 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 3
𝑥 -3 -2.5 -2 -1.5 -1 -0.5 0 0.5 1 1.5 2 2.5 3
𝑦 = 𝑓(𝑥)
2. Scatter all the points in Cartesian diagram! Mark with dot, then related it to
form a curve.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to form the curve of 𝑦 = 2 𝑥 2 , and 𝑦 = 2𝑥 2 !

Sketch the graph on a flip chart paper (sketch the three curves in one Cartesian
coordinate! Better you use different color for each curve)
𝑥 -3 -2.5 -2 -1.5 -1 -0.5 0 0.5 1 1.5 2 2.5 3

𝑦= 𝑥

𝑦 = 2𝑥 2
Graph of functions

4. Discuss with your friends (in group) what can you see from steps 1 to 3 and
draw a conclusion!
Conclusion:
