1. Show the command that you type and the output graph for the following questions.

a) Sketch (𝑥 + 5)2 + (𝑦 − 2)2= 9 by plotting the centre of a circle on the graph.

Then find the radius.

Let x + 5 = 0 and y – 2 = 0
X=-5 and y=2
r2 = 9
r=3
Centre = (-5, 2)
Radius, r = 3
b) Sketch and plot the vertex, focus point and the directrix of the parabola
𝑦2 − 2𝑦 − 4𝑥 = 3 on the graph.

y2 – 2y – 4x = 3

y2 - 2y + (-2/2)2 = 4x + 3 + (-2/2)2

(y – 1)2 = 4(x + 1)

Vertex = (-1, 1)

4p = 4 Focus point = (0, 1)

P=1 Directrix, x = - 2

c) Sketch 𝑦1 = 2𝑥 + 3 and 𝑦2 = 𝑥 + 5 on the same graph. Hence, plot and state

the intersection point.
2. Plot the graph of the following functions on the same graph:
a) y = 𝑥2
b) y = 𝑥2 – 5
c) 𝑦 = (𝑥 − 5)2
d) 𝑦 = 1/2 (𝑥 − 5)2

3. Based on the graph of y = | x |, construct graph of y= - | x + 2 | + 3 by using transformation

technique.
4. Sketch the graph of y = √ x . Based from the function above, plot
a) y1 = √ − x
b) y2 = - √ x
c) y3 = √ − x +5
d) y4 = -√ x −1
e) y5 = √ − x − 1+2
f) y6 = - √ x+1 - 3
