1. ‘’Will this go with John Dewey’s Philosophy of Education?” Explain your answer.

“If you cannot bring the learners to the world, bring the world to the classroom” Yes it
agrees with John Dewey’s Philosophy of Education because he believe that education is not
based on eternal truths but is relative to a particular society living at a given time and place. We
need as teachers to prepare our students for the real battle of life in real events and not only
based on the books but also on our experiences because we as teachers are their guide, so that
they will not be left behind and they will learn what is right and only right. We teachers should
lead the society rather than follow it.

2. Considering DepEd mission statement “to promote and protect the right of every Filipino
to quality, equitable, culture-based, and complete basic education” can we say that
Philippine educational system is in a sense equitable? What actions and what recent
legislations are proofs that the Philippines gives equal access to quality education to its
citizens?

REPUBLIC ACT No. 10931

AN ACT PROMOTING UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO QUALITY TERTIARY

EDUCATION BY PROVIDING FOR FREE TUITION AND OTHER SCHOOL FEES.

Free tuition means equal access to education. It shows President Duterte's sincerity to
provide us equal opportunity and access to quality education. Remember that the President
signed the law which grants free tuition to all SUCs and LUCs in the country amid concerns
raised by his economic team that it would have serious effects on the government’s budget. And
now, they are really sourcing funds to sustain the program,"

3. Is free tertiary education really pro-poor in the sense that it is the poor who are indeed
benefited? Justify your answer.

Yes, because it only shows that the government cares about those who are more in need
and our suffering countrymen who have a dream and want to graduate to help others in need as
well as their community where they were belong. We cannot deny that many of our students are
poor and rely on government assistance so it is a big deal for them, for us to lift our families out
of poverty considering the goal of helping others as well.

4. Paulo Freire opposed the banking method of education and favored critical pedagogy.
Why? The banking method is characterized as a vertical relationship while critical
pedagogy is characterized by a horizontal type of relationship.

Paulo Freire against in Banking method because Freire argued that this model reinforces
a lack of critical thinking and knowledge ownership in students, which in turn
reinforces oppression, in contrast to Freire's understanding of knowledge as the result of a
human, creative process. The relationship developed through the banking method between the
teacher and the students is characterized by insecurity. And Freire favor in critical pedagogy
because the central of it is dialogue, that shows love and respect that allow us to engage people
in dialogue and to discover ourselves in the process and learn from one another. This relationship
is democratic insofar as both the teacher and the student are willing and open to the possibility of
learning from each other. With this type of relationship, no one is above anyone, and there is
mutual respect. Both the teacher and the student acknowledge that they each have different
experiences and expertise to offer to each other so that both can benefit from the other to learn
and grow as human beings.
