times when people in the Valley of Mexico would eat corn tortillas wrapped
around small fish. These days both corn and flour tortillas are used and are filled

the Plaza Mayor, usually called the Zócalo.

Many foods that originated in Mexico are popular worldwide, including

avocadoes, chocolate and pumpkins. Mexico is known for its tequila, which is
made from agave cactus that is well suited to the climate of central Mexico. Soda
is a very popular drink in Mexico, as the country has a well-developed beverage
industry.

In Mexico's cities and large towns, Mexicans wear clothing similar to that
worn in the United States. The villagers' clothes, however, are very simple and
practical. Village men usually wear plain cotton shirts and pants with leather
sandals called huaraches. The village women wear blouses and long, full skirts.
