Structural Design Criteria
1. Introduction
This structural Report lists the criteria that will be used for the structural
design of a Column. It includes; the codes of practice utilized, loading
criteria, and material sections; and gives a brief description of the
proposed structural system to be used.
2. Design Criteria
2.1 Aim of Structural Design
2.1.1 Safety
The main concern of structural design is to design strong structure that
will safely carry the self-weight, and all superimposed dead and live loads,
also the equivalent wind loading through a strong connection to the
supporting beam without exceeding the allowable capacity limit.
2.1.2 Durability
This Column must be designed to be utilized for many years to come as
possible. Prolonging the life time of steel structure is enhanced by proper
designer of bolted and welded connection to resist cyclic stresses and by
producing good quality welds. Protection against corrosion is achieved by
painting of elements and/or using of galvanized steel.
3
2.1.3 Facility of Construction
• Produced design of structural systems must be possible toconstruct,
and based on local construction techniques and materials and
prevailing site conditions.
• Producing design and details should not cause construction
difficulties during erection of form work.
• Construction tolerance and dimensions of members and
connections must be carefully observed and planned to facilitate
erection of steel structural system.
2.1.4 Cost effective and safe design
One of our targets of engineering requirement in this project to design
safe and functional structural, that demand minimum cost for material
and construction by:
