PROCEDURE TO DISCHARGE CLEAN BILGE OVERBOARD

Prior to initiation of discharge operations, the Engineer-in-Charge shall first communicate and verify with
the Bridge that the vessel is in Sea Condition. Before commencing discharge operations, the Engineer-in-
Charge must also verify OCM and all alarms, three-way valves, flow switches, clean water interlock
(solenoid valves that prevent clean water from entering the oil content meter cell during discharge
operations) and recorders are in working order. These actions include confirming that the sample cell has
been cleaned prior to discharging and once again after discharging operations cease.

During discharge, the Engineer-in-Charge shall monitor malfunctions or faults, investigate and take
corrective actions and track corrective actions during discharge operations. If part of the bilge system or
monitoring system fails, the Engineer-in-Charge shall stop the discharge and inform the Chief Engineer.
Once the defect is fixed, the Chief Engineer shall decide when to resume discharge operations.

All Bilge Water discharges shall be recorded in the Oil Record Book by the Engineer-in-Charge
according to "Bilge Water Record Keeping Requirements" below.

If clean bilge is started to discharge overboard and due to high PPM is not possible to discharge, entry to
the oil record must be done, first need to write regular entry code "D", and then need to write code "I"
(check oil record book guidance for code ”I”)

STARTING PROCEDURE

- Verified that ship is in Sea condition (EOW)

- Inform bridge that we will start to discharge clean bilge (EOW)

- Record counter from Eurotherm monitor in ECR (EOW)

- Open suction valve on Valmarine 7314V276 for Clean bilge tank #2 or 7314V239 for Clean
bilge tank #4 (EOW)

- Open padlocked overboard valve 242 (key must be log in Master key log book) (Engineer-in-
Charge)

- Open padlocked valve dry protection for Clean bilge pump (key must be log in Master key log
book) (Engineer-in-Charge)

- Open technical water valve and drain valve on the side of cage, press flushing button (green
button ) and verify that the oil content monitor is indicating ZERO ppm if OCM reading is not
indicating ZERO use brush to clean cell (Engineer-in-Charge) / (EOW)

- Open two sample valves to OCM (Engineer-in-Charge)

- Start clean bilge pump (Engineer-in-Charge)

- When delivery pressure start to increase close dray protection valve for clean bilge pump and
padlock. (Engineer-in-Charge)

- Check reading on flow switch that is above 0.5 m3/h (Engineer-in-Charge)

- During starting check that 3-way valve is operating (opening below 5 PPM and closing back to
tank above 5 PPM) (Engineer-in-Charge)

- By pressing green button on white box cage check functionality of solenoid valves that prevent
clean water from entering the oil content meter cell during discharge operations(Engineer-in-
Charge)

- When PPM reading are stabilized below 5 PPM inform ECR and switch pump on
remote(Engineer-in-Charge)

STOPING PROCEDURE

- Stop clean bilge pump

- Flush OCM cell until oil content monitor is indicating ZERO ppm (Engineer-in-Charge)

- Close two sample valves to OCM (Engineer-in-Charge)

- Close overboard valve and padlock (key must be log in Master key log book) (Engineer-in-
Charge)

- Close automatic valve on Valmarine 7314V276 for Clean bilge tank #2 or 7314V239 for Clean
bilge tank #4(EOW)

- Inform bridge that clean bilge discharging is complete(EOW)

- Record counter from Eurotherm (EOW)

- Make entry to oil record book(EOW)/ (Engineer-in-Charge)
