Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

By: Doris Kearns Goodwin

This book exposed the life of Abraham Lincoln, who destined to

grow up to become the sixteenth president of the united state and the
man liable for leading his country who conquer the civil war to preserve his
country, a man who selected his cabinet (rivals), who work hard to achieve
to abolish slavery in his nation. This book attempts every reader on how
Lincoln governs his state in his way, selecting his rivals to his cabinet,
making them love and respecting him at the end.

At first, Doris Kearns Goodwin took a while before he started writing

the book. For him, it takes some research, finding someone or a thing that
could be last for long in short remarkable and notable subject to find his
courage writing the book. At that time, he works finding his character, and
he came up with the sixteenth president of the united state, who
successfully defends his nation during the Civil war and preserves his
country in salivary. In Goodwin’s research, he found out that the said
administrator is spending more time than to his family, to his wife, Mary.
Goodwin believes that president Lincoln together with his rival cabinet is
perfect to be his new subject to write a book during the Civil war, finding
reasons why we're the former president, gets along with his cabinet more,
than with his family. However, before Goodwin has successfully done the
book, he faced a lot of analysis, research, finding evidence that will prove
his book about his notable subject since the fact ended decades. Luckily
Goodwin finds some resources he featured that the member selected a
cabinet of Lincoln was a letters writer (e.g Edward Bates) expressing their
feelings and activities during their times and preserved as history during
their administration, at this fact helps Goodwin book proven and
strengthen his analysis in his book about Abraham Lincoln.

Starting the book Team of Rival: The Political Genius of Abraham

Lincoln, Doris Kearns Goodwin explores the extraordinary group of
individual attributes that allowed Lincoln first to designated, by then to
influence, men who had as of late negated him, and uncovers how Lincoln
solid and great exercises empowered him to steer the country through it
haziest days, spite of his struggles of losing his family and tiredness with
Lincoln Father at his young age instead it motivates him to strive more to
his goals and ambition in his life.

After Abraham Lincoln's party in the 1840s, the activist economy,

also known as American System spread the issue of slavery. Lincoln
decided to join for the presidential position. However, during the
campaign elite and high-profiled NY senator William Henry Sward,
stateman Salmon Chace, and prominent St. Luis stateman Edward Bates
these all elite members became competent in the 1860 campaign for the
presidency of Abraham Lincoln. After Abraham Lincoln became the
president of the United state Lincoln accept that he was a stranger to how
a political function in cities and experience the disbanding of the Union in
just weeks after he wins the position. As Lincoln think, he came upon a
strategy that will benefit him to improve his political thinking, and he
needed an idea upon leading a nation to achieve his goal of freeing slavery
on his state during the Civil war.

Thusly, every Lincoln rival has extraordinary work, not just a high
profiled elite in politics. William Henry Seward is an expert in political
areas where he was famous for making senate speech that will genuinely
affect the country. He had a lavish and attractive character. These gained
an inconceivable equation for headway. When Salmon Chase was the
phenomenal "pioneer" for the abolitionist subjugation cause. He became
renowned for protecting moved away from slaves and engaging against the
Fugitive Slave Law. Even Edward Bates was maybe the most respected
competitor for a task with an essential history. He was a veteran of the
War of 1812 and one of the men responsible for drafting the constitution of
Missouri.

He finally offered Seward, chase, Stanton, and Bares a position that

they couldn’t resist which is to be Lincoln’s cabinet like ambitious men,
the said four rival easily accept the high position and for them to have a
way of opposing the president ideas and decision and that is just a
thought. Never underestimate a person you didn’t know that much, the
four rivals underestimate Lincoln’s ability to govern a nation having the
thought Lincoln’s presidency will never be a threat.

As time goes by Seward, Stanton, and Bares finally accept Abraham

Lincoln's aptitudes in thinking and making a decision that they never
imagined agreeing for once because of distrusting the 16th president's
qualities and capabilities to think politically. Fact that the four cabinets
give notable objections toward the president even in a private conference
Lincoln never back down as he simply implied the reliable adage keep your
friend close and his rivals closer.

Notice that there is a name that shoves itself away from the group.
Salmon Chase still has doubted the president, continues opposing Lincoln’s
Advocacies as Lincoln doesn't mind the actions from Chase. The worst part
is that Chase tried to replace Lincoln’s presidency even he still belongs to
the cabinet, which Lincoln's goodwill couldn’t already tolerate the action
that has been made by Chase. So, Lincoln finally let go of Salmon Chase
and grand the resignation of his resignation letter in 1864. However, after
the re-election of Abraham Lincoln on his second term, he stunningly
positions Salmon Chase to be the Chief Justice, believing that there is no
one would be qualified if it’s not Salmon Chase. Just weeks before the
assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

The assassination affects the entire nation and the south, which
befriends the almighty President Abraham Lincoln of the United state who
manages to conquer slavery from his country during the civil war. Abraham
Lincoln is a form of a leader who couldn’t ask for more, as he is more than
willing to serve and powerful enough to protect his nation.

Team of Rivals is a fascinating book by the greatest writer and

researcher Doris Kearns Goodwin. It holds an incredible 945 pages. If you
happened to love a book of history about political theory, this book is one
of the best history books that you can read. The lesson that I learn about
being part of the Three branches of the government in this book is that it
is not totally about the power and ideas that you can have separate,
sometimes sharing and working together befriend together is the benefit
you can get to protect and serve your nation unconditionally.
