1.0 SCOPE
Coating shall be applied for all cathodic protection cad-welds to the pipeline. The coating used
for the repair shall be compatible with the pipeline coating.
2.0 INSPECTION
All coating repairs to cad-weld areas shall be inspected for complete coverage of the repair
area coating adherence, proper coating and proper coating application.
A two component epoxy powder repair kit shall be used to coat the cad-weld and surrounding
area. The area to be coated shall be cleaned of all slag, scale, rust and surface contamination.
The surface preparation shall be to SSPC-PC 10 (SA 2 1/2) near white metal. The surrounding
coating edges shall be tapered by sanding with an emery cloth. The repair coating shall be
applied to the area using a spatula.
The two component fusion bonded epoxy powder repair kit, provided by the coating
manufacturer shall be used to coat the cad-weld area. The manufacturer's instructions for
mixing and application shall be adhered to.
Coating repairs shall be made within four (4) hours after the cad-welding has been completed.
The cad-weld and surrounding area shall be cleaned of all slag, scale, rust and surface
contamination. The surface preparation shall be to SSPC-SP 10 (SA 2 1/2) near white metal.
The surrounding coating edges shall be tapered by sanding with an emery cloth. The area
shall be coated with the adhesive mastic used for the tapewrap application. Tapewrap shall
then be applied under tension and shall completely encircle the pipe and repair area.
Coating repairs shall be made within four (4) hours after the cad-welding has been completed.
