Philosophy: Curriculum Implementation and Grade

In the future, I hope to be a school leader at a school that is at the elementary level (K-3).

I would expect my future school to have a curriculum to be aligned with all major subjects

including reading, writing, phonics, math, science, and social studies. It is important to have

these curriculums so that all of the classes between grade levels are aligned. It also helps to keep

teachers organized and plan out exact what they need to be teaching each week. I would also

encourage that teachers can get creative with their lesson plans as long as they are teaching the

skill for the day. I believe that teachers should be able to modified their lessons in the moment

when they feel necessary and be as flexible as possible if things do not work out as planned.

Philosophy: Cultural Inclusiveness

The curriculum as well as teachers lessons should promote cultural inclusiveness. This is

crucial especially at the elementary level. Children are still young enough to absorb the

knowledge about how to be culturally sensitive to their peers. It is important that as a principal I

make sure my teachers are including all races, genders, sexes, and religions while teaching.

Furthermore, it is vital that teachers are allowing students to express themselves and share their

differences. According to Peoples (2019), having a culturally responsive curricula will promote a

culturally responsive learning environment. The early our students learn that we are all different

and we accept others for who they are, the sooner all our students will feel equal and a sense of

belonging.

Philosophy: Differentiation for Learning Needs and Tiered Intervention

As a current educator, I believe in differentiating your instruction in order to meet

your student's needs. I would hope that the curriculums in my future school would have

differentiated instruction already embedded into the curriculum. For example, the math program
3

that my school uses has higher order thinking questions in each lesson. These are the questions

that I know will challenge my students but I can also assign to my "exceeding" students. I would

also be willing to give my future teachers a professional development course about how they can

fully differentiate instruction in their classrooms. There are various activities you can do with

your students and there is no reason that all lessons are not differentiated. Lastly, tiered

intervention is crucial in order to help your struggling students succeed. A reading intervention

program is crucial so your students can focus on their phonics and get to the level that is

appropriate for their age level. The current program we use now breaks down the basics of

phonics including letter sounds, vowels, blends, and reading strategies. This is beneficial to all

students and will help them to be better readers.

Philosophy: Technology

I think that technology is important in a classroom to some degree. "When effectively

integrated into the curriculum, technology tools can extend learning in powerful ways

(TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION, 2007). There are so many standardized tests that are taking

on the computer so students need to be well acquainted with a computer in order to receive an

accurate school. I currently teach second grade and every year our students are using

chromebooks all day long to do their assignments. This works well for many reasons but also is

not providing them with handwriting practice. I believe that students at all ages should still be

completing some assignments traditionally with paper and pencil. But as the older the students

get, I think it is more acceptable to having them using technology that is aligned with the

curriculum.

Philosophy: Vision and Mission

4

If I was able to choose my own vision and mission for my future school it would focus

solely on the success of my students. Everything we do as teachers is for our students and their

successes. According to Gabriel and Farmer (2009), all staff should be influencing the school

vision and mission each day. believe that all students have the ability to succeed with the

appropriate accommodations and differentiated instruction. It is important that teachers are using

our curriculum as a guide each day but they also should be accommodating the lesson for our

students so they understand and can comprehend.
