DATA CONTAINER FOUNDATION

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERAL

This report summarizes the design criteria, assumptions & approach

for Structural & Civil Engineering. The values have been established as being
the most appropriate for this project, giving all the considerations and
constraints associated with the project. The primary objective of this brief is to
define a clear and feasible design evaluation approach with all design
parameters well defined.

1.2 OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT

This design report is for the foundation design for Prefabricated Data Storage
containers. There are three number of containers of size 40'x23', each will be
equipped with module of weight 24 ton. These container will rest on concrete
pedestals and will be tied with anchor bolts. The concrete pedestals will be
supported on a MAT foundation as per requirement and recommendations of
provided soil report. Below sections give the details of loading on each
pedestal. The MAT foundation was modeled on SAFE to check the bearing
pressure, punching & beam shear and design reinforcement.

2.0 DESIGN CRITERIA

2.1 CODES OF PRACTICE

The structural design of the buildings will be documented in accordance with

the following codes:-

i) International Building Code (IBC-2006)

ii) Minimum Design Load for Buildings
And Other Structures (ASCE 7-05)
iii) American Concrete Institute (ACI 318-02)

DATA CONTAINER FOUNDATION

Weight of each Module 24 ton

Weight of Container 8 ton
Total Weight of Container with Modules = 32 ton
Total Dead Load for one container in lbs = 70,400 lb
Uniformly Distributed Load in PSF = 70400/(40*23) = 77 psf
Miscellaneous Additional dead load (furniture, flooring etc.) = 30 psf
Total Dead Load = 77+30 = 107 psf
Live Load = 75 psf
Total Service Load on Pedestal at center = 0.107* (10*11) = 11.77 Kips
Self weight of pedestal = 1.5x1.5x5x0.15 = 1.7
Total Dead Load on foundation from pedestal = 11.77+1.7 = 13.5 Kips
Live Load on Foundation from pedestal = 0.075*(10*11) = 8.5 Kips
A uniform load for 3 feet backfilling = 0.12* 3 = 0.36 ksf
The load on the Edge & Corner pedestals will be half of these loads.

2.4 SOIL PROPERTIES AS PER PROVIDED SOIL REPORT

Allowable Bearing Capacity at 5 feet from Ground Level = 0.8 tsf = 1.76 ksf
Soil report recommends provision of 18 inch MAT foundation

3.0 DURABILITY

Minimum concrete cover to the nearest reinforcement (including links) shall be as

follows:

RC Beams 1.50 in
Foundations 2.00 in
Slab
Top 0.75 in
Bottom 1.0 in

2. ANALYSIS RESULTS

2.1 Check for Bearing Pressure

Bearing Pressure under the foundation for applied service loading is shown in below
figure. It shall be less than maximum allowable bearing capacity in the soil report.

Figure 5 Bearing Pressure under Foundation for Service Loads

Maximum Bearing Pressure = 1.24 Ksf

Allowable Bearing Capacity = 1.76 Ksf > 1.24 (Max. Bearing Pressure) O.K

2.2 Check for Settlement

Below figure shows maximum settlement for service loads is 0.1 inch and differential
settlement is less than 0.05 inch.

2.3 Check for Punching Shear

Below figure shows the punching ratios for the foundation. All the ratios are less than 1so
foundation is safe for punching shear.

2.4 Check for Beam Shear

Below figure shows V13 & V23 values for ultimate loads. Maximum shear is 5 Kips/ft.
