ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:

1.) There are five elements of an organization (Men, Materials, Machine,

Methods and Money), explain briefly how these elements are incorporated
and how are they dependent on each other in order to achieve a unified goal
in an organization. (Ex. How does money work in an organization? Can a
certain activity start without the necessary equipment?)

In an organization, we have these five structural elements; men, materials,

machine, methods and money, which works mutually with each other.

For instance, in a construction firm specializing in the construction of bridges,

where the organization cannot have their direction without the methods that are
needed to be executed towards the accomplishment of the bridge. Also, the
construction firm needs the allocated budget (money) for the purchase or rental of
materials and machines, for the salary of the construction workers (men) and for
miscellaneous expenses. On the other hand, money is of no use if the materials,
machineries and men, that qualifies the requirements of the project aren’t available.
In addition, either no tangible progress or difficulties will be experienced during the
construction without the required machineries. Furthermore, there will be no output if
there is no input, that is why a construction firm needs the required materials to realize
the project.

Ergo, one element cannot run or make the project successful alone. Each element
has symbiotic relationship with each other which is a must towards achieving the goal
of the organization or firm.

2.) In your own opinion, when can you say that a certain organization is
effective and efficient?

Effectivity, for me, is best measured on the quality of the output or the solution.
The degree of the smoothness of the workflow during the process of making the
output or solution, in my behalf, pertains to the organization’s efficiency. Thus, in my
vantage point, an organization is said to be effective and efficient if there is unity
among its elements during its day-to-day tasks most particularly in addressing the
problems that it will encounter.

3.) Why do you think policy is important in an organization?

An organization without policy is just like directing men to do anything that they
want to do without restrictions, as long as they accomplish the tasks given to them,
regardless of their approaches whether its valid or invalid, rational or irrational,
acceptable or unacceptable, and legal or illegal. Say for example, a head crew or a
manager of a certain fast-food restaurant asks one of his crews to deliver the food to
a customer without any policies or guidelines. This permits the crew to do the task
nicely, neutrally or rudely depending on his preference. Bad thing, is if the crew
decides to execute the job awfully which may affect the quality of service given to the
customer and eventually may affect the whole establishment as well.

To sum it up, policy guides every worker to do their job as per relevant methods,
standards and quality.

4.) Provide an organizational matrix that shows horizontal and vertical

authority relationship and explain briefly the difference between horizontal
and vertical authority.

Horizontal authority pertains to the type of authority where each member doesn’t
have elevated standing among the other members. It is the type of authority where
hierarchy doesn’t exist. In the given organizational matrix, the authority between
project managers of each level is a good example. On the other hand, vertical
authority refers to hierarchal authorities where one has higher power or standing
among his/her subordinates. An instance of this, the authority of the vice president of
each department to their respective project managers.
