Activity 9 (page 25) 10 points

Did Student A or Student B use the words from the question most effectively to maintain
focus? Give reasons for your choice.
(How far do you agree with the notion that wordless music is meaningless?)
I believe student B used the words from the question most effectively to maintain focus
because they were consistent. And they didn’t use too many words like student A did in their
paragraph. Student A used too many words and it became confusing, the focus was easily lost
because the student was going everywhere with their words like listing things for their evidence
or examples. Student B was using simplistic but clear words to effectively maintain focus on the
question or claim.
Activity 10 (page 27) 12 points
Read the essay on page 78. In the topic sentence of each body paragraph, identify the concepts
the writer uses to seamlessly transition from the ideas in one support paragraph to the next.
The concepts the writer uses to seamlessly transition from the ideas in one support paragraph
to the next is the choice of words and the examples used. The writer uses multiple examples or
evidence from specific cartoons and pointing out that they teach children something other than
being for entertainment. The concepts the writer uses to make the easy and smooth transitions
is the new ideas and reasons to why cartoons are not only for entertainment purposes. The
writer used concepts like reasons or evidence to support their thesis and the tone and shape
was always on focus. The focus never changed, it was always on the thesis and claim.

Return to the introduction you wrote for activity 7. Using the strategies you have learned in this
section, draft two body paragraphs to follow your introduction. Refer to the key features of a
body paragraph in the textbook. (I included a debate paragraph or a sentence of the starting of
it to help for the conclusion. I hope that is okay).
Happiness, indulgence, and prestige are three powerful terms in the written word. I am so happy,
good food is my only indulgence, and the king wanted to enhance his prestige through war-all powerful
terms in the spoken word. Imagine the words you use in the spoken word versus the written word, the
spoken word is stronger than the written word depending how deep, and how you say or write the
phrases. Everyone has a preference with either the spoken word, written word, or both. Personally, I
prefer the written word because of how formal, genuine, romantic, and poetic it can be. Writing allows
one to share ideas, stories, memories, and events as the spoken word can be acceptable for informal
language and certain groups. Although speaking is considered the real language and writing is only a
representation of speaking it has been said for centuries that writing is as superior to speaking but with
higher status. This means perhaps in the past almost everyone could speak but very few were able to
write, in the present almost everyone can speak and write, or they choose to speak or write. The written
word is so important in the present as speaking was in the past. To add on, writing fosters our ability to
explain and refine our ideas to others and to ourselves. The written word is the way to go, the written
word equips us with communication and thinking skills and allows us to express ourselves. Writing puts
others in our shoes, it makes our thinking and learning visible and permanent.

Pictographs were the earliest writing used to communicate about crops and taxes. However, the first
form of writing is the cuneiform script, created in Mesopotamia, present-day Iraq, ca. 3200 BC. It was
created by Sumerians over five thousand years ago, for recording and communicating different types of
information. People developed writing more over time, they altered and enriched writing to reflect their
complicated needs and desires. For this reason, I lean toward the composed word due to how the
composed word changed over time into formal, certified, heartfelt, and graceful it very well may be. The
dictated word is superior and holds higher status because through history not everyone knew how to
write. And they didn’t want to learn until others wanted to make a change. In the present, from youth to
millennials they write stories, journal logs, memories, to create amazing and strong emotions.

When tone and shape are developed, writers are able to create imagery for a reader to feel and be
put into another person shoes. This allows a writer’s thoughts and growth to be visible and permanent
in writing. Hence, anyone can write nowadays, it helps foster the ability to explain and refine our ideas
to others and to ourselves. Writing equips us with communication and thinking skills and allows us to
express oneself. Along these lines, I can communicate recorded as a hard copy and utilize the drafted
word to communicate my feelings. There have been times where I would sit and simply compose
pondering my day and how it went generally. Portraying and envisioning everything about me feeling
engaged and relaxed. People's feelings are set off when perusing and encountering what the character
feels since essayists show the reader the storylines through composition. Scholars can prod a person
with traces of what's to come or with power. Thus, the written word is helpful for multiple reasons.

Although the written word and spoken are similar in essential elements and the basic communication
process, writing is more beneficial.
