Lechal footwear was born out of a simple impulse to use technology to help the visually-impaired navigate
their worlds better.

This impulse continues to guide Lechal’s design philosophy and aesthetic, which is one that puts inclusivity
and accessibility first.

Since we are as big on our karma quotient as we are on our cool quotient, we thought it only fitting that the
proceeds from the sale of each pair of Lechal footwear go towards subsidising a pair for someone who is
visually-challenged.

Ducere has partnered with the world-renowned L.V. Prasad Eye Institute to make this a reality.

Lechal uses the technology of touch or haptics to create a truly interactive experience for the
user.
The footwear uses Bluetooth technology to connect to the user's smartphone.  Using simple
foot gestures or voice commands, the wearer can use it as a navigational tool or track their
activity from a fitness perspective.  The footwear communicates with the user via vibratory
responses, making it a hands-free experience.

Design

A lot of time and thought went into designing an insole that provides
maximum comfort with minimalist design.   The arch of the Lechal
insole provides optimal support.

Since Lechal was initially envisioned as an aide for the visually-impaired, inclusivity and
accessibility has always been central to its design.
The choice to use haptic technology was defined by the need to explore options other than
audio-based assistive devices for the visually-challenged.
Though Lechal has come a long way from its original prototype, features such as being able to
use vocal commands to control the app are the legacy of Lechal's inceptive impulse.
Each module comes with a rechargeable battery that has reversible contacts. The charger has an
inbuilt clapper which when activated beeps in a certain pattern to indicate the level of charge.

App
The app would appear to be at the core of the product line. The user can interact via voice
commands and in order to keep it simple, most of the operations can be performed using the volume
keys on your smartphone. The app will be out for all major platforms but the release date for the
same was not revealed. From what we could gather the app has the following features.
- Maps your route taken and you can label and share routes
- Location tagging feature
- Multiple modes of transportation are covered
- Includes a waypoint system 
- Calorie counter with fitness milestones 
- Social media integration
- Tourism feature, wearer will be notified of points of interest with a little write up popping up in their
phone at the same time
- Senses distance between phone and shoes, then alerts the user when the distance increases
- When a new route is pulled up you’ll be alerted if there is enough charge for the trip to begin with
- Future features include the ability to detect falls, with a call being placed to an emergency number
in the event of a fall
- The shoe gives you the ability to record gestures, so raising your heal could allow you to tag a
location or tapping your shoes twice could set it to navigate you back home - See more at:
