cultural symbols?

What are cultural symbols?
§ A cultural symbol is a physical manifestation that
signifies the ideology of a particular culture or
that merely has meaning within
a culture. Cultural symbols can be religious or
spiritual, or they can represent the ideology or
philosophy of a culture's language, values and
traditions. The Rosetta stone has
several different languages
§ carved into it
§ Language is the most often used form of
symbolism. There are 6,912 known living
languages, and the diversity is caused by
isolation.
§
Emojis are understood differently by different cultures
The meaning of an emoji varies greatly depending on culture, language, and generation.
Using emojis in cross-cultural communications runs the risk of being misunderstood. Here
are some examples of cultural variations:

The “slightly smiling” emoji is not used as a sign of happiness

in all countries. In China, it implies distrust, disbelief, or
someone humoring you. It can also convey an ironic tone of
voice in other contexts.

The angel emoji can imply having performed a good deed or

signify innocence in the west, while it may be used as a sign of
death and be perceived as threatening in China.

Eggplant Dreaming of an eggplant on the first night of the New Year

means good fortune in Japan. Some people take the eggplant for what it
is: a vegetable. In other countries like the U.S, Trinidad and Ireland it has
a strong sexual connotation, especially by users ages 18 to 24.
How to market cultural symbols?
§ 1. Define your target audience and your ultimate end goals.
§ 2. Increase your knowledge regarding the values and importance of
the symbols of different cultures.
§ 3. Associate the brand with a symbol which is considered to be
important by others
Examples :

Matryoshka dolls  are perhaps the best-known symbol of Russia around the world. In Russia,

the doll is thought to symbolize traditional values of Russian society: respect for the elderly, unity of the
extended family, fertility .
A unique land of vibrant colours, breathtaking landscapes and rich history, India is unlike
any other. From the writhing streets of Mumbai to the idyllic shores of the Andaman Islands,
this remarkable country offers a diverse feast for the senses.
Conclusions:

To summarise:
A symbol can be a mark, a sign, a place , a word, etc.
A population recognizes itself and the society through the use of cultural
symbols.
Symbols are very controversial , and we need to be careful to not offend anyone.
