V. ESSAY
Rubric:
Content – 5 points
Organization – 5 points
Impact – 5 points
Mechanics – 5 points
TOTAL: 20 POINTS

Directions: In not less than 10 sentences, discuss what you could have done differently if you were Rizal
in terms of making our country a BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN. Be guided with the rubrics. Write your
answer on the sheet of paper.

If I were Rizal at his period, I will teach and encourage people, especially Filipino Citizens to be
brave and to stand for themselves for no one will do it except for themselves. And if we encourage and
help one another, we can have peace and we will overcome any problem that will come. But unlike Rizal
who fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way and expressed his love for the Philippines through
his novels, essays and articles, rather than through the use of force or aggression, I can also be an active
social activist. Being a social activist doesn’t mean aiming for aggression just to fought for the country.
By this mean, I can lead a civil right movement just like what other people did in fighting for freedom.
Because of this, I can be the voice of all the Filipinos. And by this mean, I can also encourage other
people to fight, and have strength, not by aggression but by joining forces to be the voice of everybody. If
Rizal was able to successfully aid some help in achieving freedom through his literary works, then maybe
I could also help by means of a Social Movement. It might not be easy as life threats may exist but
sacrificing for the freedom of the country will mean a lot to all the Filipinos. And lastly, I will leave a
quote from Bob Marley stating that, “Better to die fighting for freedom then to be a prisoner all the days
of your life.”
