LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE
I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Describe the structure and function of major and subcellular organelles.
(STEM_BIO11/12- Ia-c-2)

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Cell Biology- Cell Structure and Functions
Reference: Learner’s Material, Internet Sources
Materials: Laptop, LCD Projector, pictures, manila papers, activity sheets
Value Integration: Appreciate the importance of cell organelles in the whole body function
of both animals and plants.

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
The teacher will lead the class in prayer.
b. Greetings
“Good morning my future scientists!”
c. Energizer
The teacher will let the students sing and dance the “Every Single Cell” song.
d. Classroom Standards
The teacher will show the different classroom standards that the students should
follow.
e. Checking of Attendance
The teacher will call the class monitor to report the attendance.
f. Checking of Assignment
The students will pass their assignments and answer it with the help of the teacher as
a way of reviewing the lesson.
g. Review
The teacher will show descriptions of how the cell and its structure was discovered.
The students will tell the scientist who is responsible for that discovery.
h. Drill/Motivation
The students will be grouped into four. The teacher will give each group an envelope
with cut-out pictures inside it. The students will fix it to be able to complete the
puzzle.
- “What have you formed out of the puzzle?”
- The teacher will compare cell to a factory.
- “What are the requirements of a factory would be in order for it to function?”

B. Lesson Proper

a. Activity
- The teacher will present the lesson objective for the students to read and be able
to tell the topic to be discussed.
- The teacher will introduce an activity.

- The students will be grouped into four.

- Each group will pick one envelope with a specific task inside on how to present
the cell organelles and their functions in a differentiated way.
- The students will be given ten (10) minutes to do the task and one (1) minute to
present the activity in front of the class.

b. Analysis
- The teacher will ask the following questions:
- “How do you find the activity?”
- “Why nucleus is known as the control center of the cell?”
- “How do the cell parts work together to keep us alive?”
- “Why is it important to understand the cell structure and function?”

c. Abstraction
- The teacher will elaborate the topic through discussion. The teacher will
introduce the organelles of cell and its function.
- Cell membrane is a structure that surrounds each cell; boundary between the
living cell and its environment; and has transport proteins to assist the passage of
larger molecules
- Cell wall is made up of cellulose and can only be found in plant cells

- Nucleus is the control center of the cell; surrounded by nuclear membrane; and
contains chromosomes and nucleolus
- Nuclear membrane surrounds the nucleus; contains pores and channels that
connect to the ER, found in the cytoplasm
- Chromosomes are found inside the nucleus; contains DNA; and control activities
of the cell
- Nucleolus is a large, round structure within the nucleus; and responsible for the
component of ribosomes
- Cytoplasm is the liquid part of the cell; contains many of the different organelles
- Mitochondrion is the powerhouse of the cell; contains an internal membrane that
is folded to form cristae; folds of the cristae contain enzymes that perform
cellular respiration;
- Endoplasmic reticulum is a series of channel in the cytoplasm; provides rapid
molecular movement; smooth ER and rough ER

- Ribosomes is the structure where proteins are made
- Golgi bodies is packaging organelles for material to be exported outside the cell
- Lysosomes is known as the suicide bag; membrane bounded and contain
digestive enzymes
- Vacuoles is the water bag or storage of the cell
- Cytoskeleton is a network of flexible fibers; made of microtubules; and act as
little muscle of the cell
- Chloroplasts is a plant organelle that make food through photosynthesis; contains
the green pigment (chlorophyll)
- Cilia and flagella are organelles of locomotion; and contains proteins to move
- Centrioles is an animal cell structure used during cell division; produced network
of fibers known as spindle

d. Application
- The teacher will ask the following question:
- “What will happen if one or more of the cell organelles is damaged?”

e. Generalization
- The teacher will ask the following questions:
- “What are the different cell organelles?”
- “Describe the function of the basic cell structures.”

IV. Evaluation
